We were kicked out of our home and in the move my WIC vouchers disapeared and WIC won't replace them. My baby is currently on Enfamily lactofree lipil. We are really low on money right now and I have some similac samples and coupons and I have tons of Good Start Coupons. Will it hurt her in any way if I Use them, because around here Enfamil is the highest priced one. And it only takes her 3 days to go through a can.

I can't possibly choose a best answer! you all helped so much, I didn't think it would hurt her but people were telling me it coulse cause serious problems. And dont worry ya'll, When I do switch her Im not gonna go hog wild and switch her to every different type of each formula there is out there, Im gonna stick with one type of each. Thank you all very much!

Oh and no she wasn't diagnosed as lactose free. The first formula she was on was Enfamil Lipil with Iron and it gave her really bad gas, so I told the doc about it and he changed her to that for some reason, now it gived her really bad constipation and he wont change it again-I dunno why, he just wont-This is another reason I want to do formula switching.

YES!!! you have to be careful with changing your babies formulas. tell ur doctor that you are considering changing formula and you want to know what formula you can switch to without harming you babies health. If you are going to switch make sure you take the can of enfamil with you and read the nutrients on the back of the can and compare to the new formula u want to use

It will be fine, you have to do what you have to do. All infant formulas have the same necessary vitamins and minerals in order to thrive. You just have to make sure the new formula is also lactose free I'm assuming she has been diagnosed with a milk allergy) that's why she needs lactose free? try the walmart generic brand of the lactose free formula. If she's not lactose intolerant, try Nestle Good start with comfort protiens for easier digestion. I hope this helps. By the way, subtle changes may occur in the few days after switching, but signs like projectile vomit, severe diarrhea, trouble breething, constipation for more than 3 days, and excessive gas or crying will indicate an intolerance and you will have to switch back. If none of that happens, she will be fine!

It shouldn't. Many new moms switch formulas while trying to find the best one & my infant got a couple different kinds because I was just going off of what the hospital gave me while trying to get the hang of breastfeeding [and before anybody has anything nasty to say- I had to supplement because she wasn't soiling diapers almost at all!] and she was fine...but because it seems as if your baby might be a little older & therefore maybe used to that one particular kind I would suggest when you get low on the type that you have now start mixing the different brands 1/4 to 3/4 & gradually increase the new formula in the mixture until you run out of the old kind & then she should be ok with the new kind [assuming all goes according to plan]. I think that I read that on the Goodstart website. Worth checking out if you'd like to be sure.

I hope your situation gets better.

The older the child is, the less likely it is to upset their tummies. However, some children are not affected by different formula's at all. My oldest child could use any formula, but my youngest had to have only one kind. It all depends on the child. My suggestion, try the samples, and if the baby will not eat them, then sorry to say but you need to buy some formula for her.

Your baby should be okay as long as you keep getting a lactose free formula. I switched my son quite a bit when money got tight and wic wasn't enough to keep up with what he needed and he didn't have any problems. You can always call a nurse at your local hospital and they can give you advice as well.

Speak to her pediatrician. Considering she has been on a lactose-free lipil I don't know that I'd switch.

Maybe her pediatrician has (or can get you some) samples of her formula. Give a call and tell them your situation.

Yes it can cause problems including stomach upset, diarrhea, constipation, and digestive upset. I also wouldn't change to something else that WIC does not cover. Is it possible to talk to the doc about this prior to deciding?

I would talk to your doc. They might have some free samples for you to have. And you can also go onto the emfamil website and see if they have some coupons and some other free stuff too.

Sometimes, changing formulas can cause stomach upset, but it doesn't always happen. Good Start would be a good choice 1) because it is much less expensive, and 2) because it has specially designed comfort proteins for easy digestion. She is less likely to have stomach issues with Good Start.
