Wish I knew if you were in Northern or Southern Calif - that would help a lot. And what's your budget? Inside or out? Beach or Mountain?
For No Cal, as everyone's suggested, consider Tahoe. For So Cal, try some of the chapels on this list - http://www.officiantguy.com/locations.html
I also agree with the idea of a B&B - lots of them do wonderful weddings! Here's some good lists to get you started - http://www.virtualcities.com/ons/ca/cawedding.htm

Eloping means just you and hubby. Not anyone else except the judge/justice of the peace and maybe 2 strangers as witnesses.
It means no photos, flowers, nice setting, church, organ, reception etc. Just the couple and the JOP and a wedding night at the local mom/pop motel.
What you're describing is what's known as an intimate family wedding. Intimate Family Weddings can be very, very nice.
Try the pool at your apartment complex. Or a friend's back yard. Or a historic mansion, Or an art museum or botanical gardens Or the local park (get a permit for those) or your parents' living room.
With an intimate family wedding, you get to have the dress, flowers, cake, photographer etc. With elopement you don't.
Hire a solo guitarist or violinist (I do this often - play for small weddings) for music. Intimate family weddings are chic and lovely and can be truly memorable - much more so than those big affairs that leave everyone exhausted, drunk and broke.
But you are not eloping. Not by a long shot.

Try a local park. I don't quite understand why you're eloping. No one plans an elopement. I knew someone that did that because the guy didn't want to get married and a planned elopement gave him more time to string her along...I'm just sayin..
Talk to your fiance and figure what you can do on your budget. I think a park is your best bet, and with the flowers naturally there, you won't need to buy as many.

why not just have a great family wedding. I mean they're all coming with you too.
Now correct me if I'm wrong but when someone elopes isnt it supposed to be a spur of the moment type of thing where the guy comes and sweeps you off your feet in the middle of the night declaring he cant stand another minute without knowing he has you by his side and then both of you taking off in the middle of the night to get married the very next morning, then coming back and telling your family what you have done. isnt that the excitement of eloping?

As for having a photographer ask one of your friends if they will take the pictures for you, all you then have to do is pay for the film and the developing part of it. You can get flowers at your local grocery store for a fairly good deal. as for a location in California that I can't help you, i live in Illinois. I do know that there are some really nice parks in your state, find out from your local parks department, most of the time it is free to get married in a park, just as long as you clean up any messes that you make. Good luck and have a happy marriage.

I would try tahoe. It can get expensive but its Tahoe! It is soo beautiful. Stay away from the Cal-Neva though. It is cheesy 1960's Rat Pack. I would try Aspen Grove in Incline Village or maybe Round Hill Pines Beach in South Shore of Lake Tahoe.
Good Luck..

Calneva Lodge, in North Lake Tahoe....right on the California /Nevada border. Lovely. Your guests can stay across the street at the Biltmore...cheap!

what area do you live in....You can look up bed and breakfest hotels in your area..they have lake side views, pool, gardens and so on. They have simple packages from just like 4 people to 50 people and up. Its starts about $500 and if you want to include your room...it can go to $5,000...It just depends on what all the little details you add.
