Jagterriers for hogs. Some use Black Mouth Curs. Others Leopard Dogs, and a Plott hound has been called a Pit Bull on stilts.

I own a Plott and a Jagterrier. The Jagterrier is a kill dog. The Plott is good, too, but the Jagterrier is just like a missile. It just goes for the kill, and is the most fearless dog I have ever seen. This dog just hunts, and hunts, and hunts. She does not want to do anything else. Very sensible around people, and just nuts on game. I would go with the Jagterrier.

Lots of folks around here use Catahoula Leopard Dogs, aka Catahoula Hounds.

They are big, fast and tough. Lots of folks use the Catahoulas to chase and bring the hog to bay and then send in a pit bull trained as a catch dog. The pit bull grabs the hog's nose and won't turn loose. Then some idiot showing off his cojones goes in and kills the hog with a knife.

Not me, I'll stick to using a .44. Them tusks can really cut a dog or a man to shreds.

Catahoulas are considered best in my part of the country, too, and I'm with Doc. I like having a forty-something around, though I usually use a deer rifle and still hunt.

I dont use dogs to hunt hogs. I use my natural hunting instincts to do it. We have so many hogs around here, you dont need a dog to do it.

Pit bulls or labs. pit bulls are your easiest train and are really loyla despite what anyone says about them. labs tend to be hyper and not as easy to teach. But when they learn...they are good.
