If you went to drop your child off at day care and there was 13 or more babies ages 1-2 years old and half of them were crying and there was one teacher in the room with them in the changing area changing diapers?? Would you take your child home? Would you report it? Who would you report to?

I also want to thank all of you for any input you have on this matter! It really helps me as I was put in this situation this morning. The teacher told me that she would be getting someone else in to help her in 15 min so I left my son. But I did report it to the proper authorities.... had to do some hunting to find the right agency but I got my complaint heard.

I would love to keep my kid at home but I have to work. My husband works out of town and we have no family locally.

In the state of Georgia, daycare centers can legally only have 6 infants under 12 months to 1 adult. I think the ratio is about 12:1 or 15: for 1 year olds. 1 year olds and 2 year olds are not supposed to be in the same room, if so then the ratio drops. I would suggest you report it to the health department, they can help you. I would also suggest you do some searching for a better qualified daycare center. Your children are more inportant than anyone other than your husband. Take care of them and make sure everyone else does as well!

In Canada a day care can only have 4 kids per adult, if anything find out if it's licensed and if not get a new day care, my day care who has 4 adults working there can only accept 1 child under 1 years old, 2 kids from 1-2 and 4 kids between the ages of 3-5 and any child above 6 they can have as many as they want, in certain cases they will take twins or triplets under 1 and classify then as one child, but as long as there isn't more then 4 kids per adult i would be OK with it. and about reporting it try the ministry of children and families.

From my understanding I thought that it had to be 1 teacher for every 4-5 infants, 13 is too much to handle. I have had 3 1 1/2 yr old at one time and that was enough. I really would be hard pressed to feel comfortable leaving my child there, even if I had to call in sick to work and go back and get him. I would first call the daycare to find out what was going on and second start looking for another.

Yes, I would report it. The state licenses daycares. You'd have to check your state's website.
I would ask the one teacher that was there "Where is everyone? You sure seem to have your hands full!" and if the teacher said she was the only one there, then yes, I'd take my daughter with me to work until they got the situation under control. That's insane.

Take the kid home, for sure. You don't want to risk it, just because you need a sitter. Call the state licensing boards have the facility evaluated.

look for another day care that has more than one person in the class so they can give the children all the attention needed.
i dont think its a good thing to have one adult for more than 5 children the children will not get the attention needed

I'd start with asking the owner what was going on. Not sure if I'd leave my kid or not... Sometimes people have no other choice.
