I do understand what prevents them from having higher levels of vit K. I just don't know WHY they all prevent it. It seems there has to be an explanation. Are there any studies done on this?

Are there any reasons (benifits in general health) that newborns are born with low amounts of vit. K? It just seems to me that God planned for it to be normal for infants to have bodies with low amounts of vitamin K for the first few days of life. What was God's rationale? or nature's reasoning? (if nature has the ability to reason)

The meconium in the infant intestine is sterile, but a population of bacteria rapidly develop after birth. Within about a week, vitamin K levels are present and adequate, assuming the infant has not been on antibiotics.

Vitamin K does cross the placenta, and is present in breast milk. Mothers of premies especially may not provide enough vitamin K to the infant, so they are at risk for hemorrhage. Most hospital delivery rooms give a vitamin K injection to the infant to prevent hemorrhagic disease of the newborn.

Vitamin K is made by intestinal bacteria. Babies get their nutrition from the placenta. I would assume that it doesn't cross the placenta or isn't high in concentration in the blood.

One major factor is not enough oxygen to the brain of the fetus. Might be other birth defects? Celebral palsy (CP)? etc... I don't have CP.
