If you want something modern, your best bet is one of the economy cars, like the Ford Focus or Honda Civic. A 2004 or 2005 Focus with 30 to 40 thousand miles on it, could be bought for between 7 to 9 thousand dollars.

If you could work a couple of months first, save up 1,000 for downpayment, and if your parents can swing 4 year financing for you, you could buy it with monthly payments of around $200 per month. Add in another $100 for insurance, and $60 for gas. You are looking at $350 or so a month.

That's still quite a lot for a 16 year old working part time. Essentially, you'd be working almost the whole month for your car expenses. If it were me, it wouldn't be worth it.

The largest expense in owning your own car at age 16 can often be the insurance. Understand that buying a car on payments will require you to carry full coverage to protect the lender. Much more expensive than just liability coverage to protect you. If you can limit your car choice to a cash purchace, it will save you plenty & help you afford to put gas in the tank! Try to be happy with an older, smaller car you really can afford. Jobs at 16 rarely pay above minimum wage & have limited work hours. I've been there, done that & learned from it.

A car at the age is a big question you have to look at alot of different things like, insurance and how uch it will cost for a year, repair cost during the year, check up every 5000 km.... There is alot to think about. I'm 21 and i got a car at 17 under my own name and insurance the only way i had cheaper insurance was going under my b/f that i was common law with for a year b4. But i still went to school and well gas, and repairs killed me and i almost never had money till i got out of highschool.

If your 16 and you want to finance a car, you cant. You need a Co-signer. But you cant buy one cash.
