Right, I have fresh garlic, garlic butter, tomatoes and red onions. Obviously, I also have bread ^_^

But I want to know what the best way to do this is before I go through with it and just end up with slightly soggy bread with a lot of indistinguishable ingredients on it.

Unfortunately I guess you miss the main 'must' of the bruschetta that's the bread from Tuscany. It's a not-salted bread ; try to find something similar, slice it not too thin (0,6/0,7 ") and put it on the grill for a 20-25 seconds, without let it burning. When it's golden colored you should turn it and grill the other side. After then, rub the slice on both sides with garlic (the white one...!!) and just top one side with extra-virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. That's the classic bruschetta (that here in Tuscany it's also called fettunta meaning 'oiled slice').Variations may include toppings of spicy red pepper or tomato and basil.

I use a baguette or french loaf ,slice into pieces and lay out on cookie sheet with a sprinkling of olive oil and some butter. Then I broil until toasted on both sides ( this will keep them from being soggy).
My topping is very simple.
fresh garlic
diced tomatoes
fresh basil
olive oil
salt and pepper
It is what you put on the bread before the topping that makes it really good. I use goats cheese or cream cheese. Then I add topping and a generous amount of parmesan cheese and serve warm. Hope this helps.

Take french bread and slice it into pieces, butter and garlic them, toast them under the broiler for a few minutes, until golden brown, then add salsa topping! YUM!

Mmmm, you're making me hungry. I think California Pizza Kitchen makes awesome bruchetta. You can call your local restaurant (if you have one) and simply ask them. My mom got the recipe for one of their salad dressings just by calling and asking.
