"What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world"
- Prophet Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p.270

"After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christendom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They all belong to Babylon"
- Apostle George Q. Cannon said, Gospel Truth, p.324

"Christians—those poor, miserable priests brother Brigham was speaking about—some of them are the biggest whoremasters there are on the earth, and at the same time preaching righteousness to the children of men. The poor devils, they could not get up here and preach an oral discourse, to save themselves from hell; they are preaching their fathers' sermons —preaching sermons that were written a hundred years before they were born. ...You may get a Methodist priest to pour water on you, or sprinkle it on you, and baptize you face foremost, or lay you down the other way, and whatever mode you please, and you will be damned with your priest."
- Apostle Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses, 5:89

"Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the 'whore of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent"
- Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 255

Mormons: Why would you want to associate yourself with the name "Christian" if your leaders say Christians will burn in hell?? Your original leaders were very clear on their beliefs. They knew they weren't Christians and didn't claim to be. Have modern Mormons muddied the waters by calling themselves Christians so they'll fit in better and fool people a little easier?

Juanes: "had you worked a little harder in life to follow your Savior..." When speaking of salvation, the Bible makes it clear in Ephesians 2:8+9 For by GRACE are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast.

When the Bible speaks of the "glory" of the heavens, this does not mean there are levels of Heaven that you can work to get to. Put aside the Mormon literature, and read the Bible. You will find the truth.

Wow, I didn't know that that is what Mormon literature says about Christians.

I think that Mormon beliefs are separate from Christian beliefs because the core doctrine is different. For instance:

Mormons believe that you can only get to Heaven through good works. Man reaches up to God to be saved.

Christians believe that you can only get to Heaven by accepting Jesus as Savior and Lord and putting your trust in Him, resulting in a changed life. God reaches down to man to be saved.

Mormons believe that there is no Holy Trinity.

Christians believe that Jesus is God in man form and that He, the Father and the Holy Spirit are three persons in One being.

Mormons believe that there are "inspired" books that can be added to the Bible.

Christians believe what the Bible says in Revelation--that no words can be added or taken away from original Scripture.

No, I don't believe that it is correct for Mormons to call themselves Christians, because the beliefs about core doctrine are widely differing from one another.

I'm not sure what their motive behind calling themselves "Christians" are, but I know that it is confusing to a lot of people, especially to those who are not believers in the Lord.

Coming from a Christian standpoint, I believe that their doctrine, (based on what the Bible says), is confusing and distorted in and of itself....so I'm not surprised that they would label themselves in a way that is just as confusing and distorted, by claiming to be something that they are not--by claiming to be someone different than they are.

If you do not believe that Christ appeared to Joseph Smith and restored his (Christ's) church than what the Mormons profess is just another of the many teachings of men. On the other hand if Christ did appear to Joseph and restored the church along with the authority of the priesthood, prophets, apostles, etc. than I would seem to put more merit on what the Mormons profess.

Just as an atheist can go through the steps necessary to obtain a belief and faith in God, so can anyone else do the same thing to obtain a belief that what the LDS church claims is true.

Many protestant branches claim that others who call themselves "christians" are in fact being deceived by the devil, and evil because of it. Why hate on just one sect that does that.....
And to all those that say that they "added on" to the bible, remember, that to us Jews, the NT is also an "add-on" after add-ons were not to be done...
It makes non mormon christians look like the kid that changed the rules of the game, then got mad when another kid changed them later...

A couple of points:

1) Mormons are to Christians what Christians are to Jews.

2) After seeing your "christianity" in action in the series of attack-questions you've launched, bashing a group of people who by all accounts are decent, hard-working, good neighbors, why would we Mormons want to be lumped under the same label as you? If that's what it means to be a "christian", you can have it.

It's to lead others astray and get them sucked into a false religion. The BoM may sound Christian, but that's only because Joseph Smith plagarized a good deal of the Bible and then just made the rest up.

Thanks.

I am glad the Holy Spirit let me know that the Mormon book wasn't inspired by the God of the Holy Bible. I will choose to believe in my Savior & my Redeemer any day.

When Jesus comes back to burn the tares (in this case false doctrine that add to Gods Word) then everyone will know the tares for what they were.

These comments are a Latter Day... fear tactict to keep mormons in the leaders control. The devil rules by fear based on lies.

Anyone who believes Jesus was the son of God is considered Christian, no matter how far away from the Roman Catholic church's ideologies their beliefs are., and the Pentecostal and Southern Baptists spew the same kind of vitriol against other churches that the mormon leaders do. Hell, I know of a Pentecostal preacher who will interrupt a mass with his denouncing and shouting rudeness. Andjust look whatyou aredoing. Do you claim to beChristian? Because that post isn't!

The bible says at 2 Corinthians 11 verses 13 to 15
"For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforning themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself keeps transforming himself into an angel of light. It is therefore nothing great if his ministers also keep transforming themselves into ministers of righteousness. But their end shall be according to their works."

They will be exposed by their works if they are or not Christian by Gods standards, not ours.

Actaully they think they are saved, naturally, haha. they think the family oriented style, the no smoking, or coffee drinking, or alsoholic drinking or taking drugs means they are christians, or the no sex before marriage, but I know christians who court and courting is a higher standard then traditional mormon dating standards (I will probably get my comment deleted again by a mormon-why not), but since Jesus and God are Gods and God has several wives that is many Gods they worship. Plus they worship themselves as in they evolve into Gods.

I have no idea how they claim Christianity. They believe Christ was a created being, therefore they have no sin-bearer. Oh, wait--they do! They will have to bear their OWN sins in Hades. Unless of course they will flee from the heresy and witchcraft that is being preached unto them.
