Abraham lies to his own son, so he can trick him into helping him carry the wood to his own funeral pyre!

It's not enough that he murder his own son because God told him to, but Abraham is too lazy to carry the wood to the sacrifice himself, so he tricks his son into doing it for him!

I picture young Isaac looking up at his father with trusting eyes, and I picture Abraham looking down at his son and lying to him about his impending doom.

Does this disturb you? It disturbs me, but apparently some people have no problem with it, because any atrocity is acceptable as long as you think God wants you to do it.

Abraham was 125 years old at the time. Isaac was 25. Could Abraham have forced Isaac onto the altar? I don't think so. Could Isaac at any time have dropped the wood, left his father, and gone back home? Yes. Abraham and Isaac were men of faith.

Abraham knew that God would deliver His Son somehow. God had previously promised Abraham that Isaac was heir to the promises of the Abrahamic covenant and a great nation would proceed from him. (Genesis 21:9-12). The Bible account may be incomplete. Who knows what Abraham said to Isaac in between the time he said "God will provide a lamb" and the time when Abraham "bound Isaac." It's apparent that there was no struggle or fight, so that implies Isaac, like his Father, submitted to the will of God. Abraham’s willingness to offer Isaac was a similitude of God and his Only Begotten Son (Jacob 4: 5). I believe that both father and son yielded to the will of God. If you don't and you want to be "an offender for a word" that you may not believe in the truth of the Lord. So be it. That's your choice. As for me, I will believe. God bless you

Yours truly

Arthur :)

Genesis 22
9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

Isaac was not a child but a young man and could easily have kicked his old man's behind but he was faithful and trusting in both his father and in the Lord.

P.S. Have you noticed the parallels to the crucifixion?? Take another look. Three days. Mt. Moriah. Father's sacrifice of his son? Dude. It's right there in black and white.

Amen

Again ...These followers are led blindly, they twist, interpret and adjust the bible to their beliefs...
Their beliefs are more important to them then family and friends(alot of cases)....
they spend their lives trying to dig deep and learn more of "gods word"....
I thought god was love....simple and true....
These people don't know love.....
nothing to study ...nothing to dig deep for ...
love and giving.....pure and simple

sad but true....

Yes it does. Even this example. He had faith in God that his son would not be left by God. He could return him to life. He had a close relationship with God and knew even though it did not make sense at the time, God would not ask if it was not important.

Family values is a concept the religious right came up with, not what God came up with. What on earth are family values anyway?

God never wanted Abraham to sacrifice his son. Study the whole Bible carefully. Abraham was not only a man of faith but also terrified of God as most people those days were. They were very ignorant about what God is like, just as most people are nowadays. Abraham was ready to offer his son partly because he had faith in God and partly because he was terrified. God showed him that he was not like the other gods and that He would not ever ask someone to sacrifice their children, as worshippers of Molech and Ashtera did. God was also showing that ultimately a human sacrifice would be needed. That sacrifice was Jesus Christ. God gave His Son to be sacrificed. His Son did this of His own volition. At no time was Jesus told He could not turn back. In fact, Jesus is God. God is a trinity. Jesus was effectively the one who spoke with Abraham and showed all of us, even though Abraham may not have realised it, that He would sacrifice Himself for us.

Did God go through with this "atrocity". No, He did not. Stop reading the Bible superficially. Study it properly, and better yet, engage God directly, not the Bible. How do you really get to know someone just by reading about them? You cannot.

We don't ignore them. However, that was a different time before Christ and any explanation I give will be thrown away, laughed at, or from my part a theory. God then gave us His son and didn't need to test people in those ways anymore. If many of you focused as much attention on the love of God as you do the things like that, you might understand a bit more. Open your mind.

It disturbs me, but I laugh it off. There are NO family values mentioned in the bible. Just sex, incest, murder, lies, thievery , rape, genocide and war.

Here's something to read to the kids;

Abraham married his sister, and God blessed their marriage (17:15-16). 20:12
