Do you have other hair color on your head now? Are you only wanting to go 1-2 levels lighter? If you answered the first question no and the second question yes than you would probably be satisfied with a L'Oreal product. To go lighter than a few levels and if you have color on your hair now you need a professional to have a great outcome. Highlighting is usually a better option for most people. I've done the research, Loreal is top rated over all other home coloring kits. I've used it myself and it's color is great, and it provides amazing color-saving conditioner that will keep your hair color vibrant, and make your hair soft, silky, and smooth.

If your hair is currently and naturally dark, find a 2-step kit: the first step would be to apply something to remove color from your hair, and second would be to apply the color you would like to end up with. I beleive Loreal sells these types of boxes.

If you can afford it though, I would recommend going to a professional instead, the dye they use is a lot less harsh on your hair and usually provides better results. If you already dyed your hair dark, seeing a color specialist is pretty much mandatory if you don't want a disaster.

I would go to your local Sally Beauty Supply and ask them for their assistance. There are many brands of bleach that work the same and there are others that will enhance different tones in your hair such as Kaleidocolor bleach it comes in 4 different ones that will bring out different tones. I love this brand, it's what I use as a cosmetologist!
