It checks for blood. But a HpSA test can detect antigen in stool.

Other Helicobactor Pylori tests are :
- urea breath test
- antibodies in your blood
- urease test or histology from endoscopic biosies.

Ulcers are usually caused by H. Pylori or the use of NSAIDs such as aspirin and ibuprofen. H.Pylori is killed by a triple therapy with a proton pump inhibitor and two antibiotics while antibiotics aren't indicated when the ulcer is caused by NSAIDs.

It is to look for "occult blood" , hence the name . Occult as in blood that might be in the stool , but is not apparent because it got digested by the juices in the digestive tract . Occult blood usually happens with Peptic ulcers .
If you have an ulcer , believe me , whether you have Helicobacter or not ,is in my opinion , irrelevant . Most people with and without ulcers have them . And if you take antibiotics for them , they will just come back .
