Okay, I know that almost all toddlers love to splash in the bathtub, but my son is taking it to another level. He splashes so much water out of the tub, that I actually take the bathroom mats out and wear a bathing suit while giving him a bath. I can't shampoo his hair or anything without getting huge waves of water in my face. Should I start giving him sponge baths? Is there a way I can get him to not splash so much?

Lol...you have more patience than me to actually put up with it this long!

First - don't run as much water. Try filling it up to just below his belly button while he is sitting. Any more and you can run a risk of drowning anyway if you happen to turn your back.

Second - The first thing you do is you clean him...then let him play. You will see why in the next part...

Third - he is a toddler, meaning he is old enough to learn there are consequences for every action. Tell him no splashing in the tub or you will take him out. Warn him first then the next time he does it you automatically take him out of the tub (see...he is already clean). Explain that there is "no spashing" in the tub...splashing is for pools only (no need to even yell!). Trust me! He will "get it" after a couple times of being pulled out of a warm tubby!!!

My 2 year old son does the same thing, but what I do is I start filling the tub and I immediately wash his hair and body. Then, I only fill it maybe 6 inches max. I remind him no splashing in the tub and tell him he can splash in the pool or at the beach. He didn't get it at first and I would take him out after 2 reminders. Now, I don't even have to remind him more than once. The key is consistency. If you immediately remove him and tell him no splashing in the tub, he will eventually make the connection! Good luck!

Make him take a shower the next night. I do this with my 2 year old. I empty the tub when she gets out of hand and finish off with a shower, the next night I shower her, the next we try a bath again. THB I only had to give her 2 showers before she stopped the splashing. We also realized that a quick shower can be more fun than a bath.

You didn't specify how old your toddler is, but I am assuming around 1-2 yrs. At that age, splashing in the bath is actually teaching him. He is learning cause and affect. While it can be a lot to deal with, he isn't hurting himself or anyone else, so let him have his fun. If you are worried about the mess, maybe get a clear shower curtain and cut it shorter so you can hang it up about midway in the shower. This way you can still supervise him good without having so much mess to clean up. Good Luck!

he he my son does this and there's no reasoning with him , hes having fun . i got round this problem by fitting a shower curtain above the bath tub and pulling it across when im bathing him . you have to lean round it at the top end of the bath and you do still get a little splashed but its better than the tsunami he usually causes , good luck and happy splashing .

Use only enough water to barely cover the bottom of the tub. If he starts splashing, bath time is over.

I wouldn't put so much water in the tub. If he starts to splash, tell him no. If he keeps doing it, take him out of the tub. Make sure to do it every time. Don't let him get away with it or it wont work. He'll keep doing it.

How much water are you using? My son is a yr old in a few days and he gets 2-3 inchs max. It allows enough water to wash him in, lay him down to rinse his hair, and enough water to splash in and doesnt get all over the floor

when he gets too splashy take him out and tell him no. He will get mad, but after a few repeats he will understand. Maybe get him a wading pool to play in to get all the splashes out in a better place!
