Intuition is part of a subconcious decision making process.
Maybe it was evolved to help us make split-second decisions.

It's not a psychic thing, if that's what you're talking about.

Well...I think that intuition comes from having learned through past experiences. Like I sometimes seem to have fantastic intuition when it comes to my two small children. My husband laughs and says that I have this uncanny ability to predict when and how they'll hurt themselves or get themselves into trouble. I think the only reason I'm really good at making those predictions is because I have a lot of experience with small children, and I also know my children very well. When I'm in a situation, I know in my gut what to expect, because I've seen it all. The same goes for almost anything. I think we unconsciously make most "predictions" based on things we've previously experienced, and sometimes on things that we've noticed currently, and may not even REALIZED that we've noticed. I don't attach any sort of supernatural significance to things like "intuition."

Let's look at this this way. Children do not have intuition. It's something they learn to use as they get older. I think intuition is just all of your years experience that are stored in the brain analyzing the circumstances to give you a "gut feeling". The brain is phenomenal...it can go through all of your past similar experiences and calculate how the situation ended in those, thereby giving you a guiding sense of how your current situation might go. This can also explain why your intuition may be wrong - your perception of previous events may be skewed or innaccurate, thereby making your "intuitive choice" a poor one.

It can be the result of a great deal of subconscious calculation, and result in a decision better than any consciously arrived-at one.

All too often, however, it's just an excuse for prejudice.

Don't know but I have found that in many cases that "just feeling something" about something or "knowing that it is wrong" may more likely be a product of upbringing and conditioning.

Not all reasoning is conscious, regardless of your religion.
