The bible commanded "masters" to treat their slaves well. That is the only "slavery" that the bible condones. Black people were not considered even human at that time.
A convenient oversight, if you ask me. Not Christian at all.

This is one situation where the bible was interpreted wrong and a book is not to blame but the people that choose to read and use the book in the wrong way are to blame. This is just one of the reasons I gave up religion it is too easy for someone to note one type of blatant sin and turn a blind eye an even bigger sin. I remember being in a school and a child stood up and said all black people are Cains decendents and all white people where Abel's. It dawned on me people actually think like that never mind that Cain and Abel is a story of two brother's and one brother murdered the other in cold blood because he failed to acknowledge his own deeds as being the reason he was passed up. There are still people out there that will spit on a Jew because they say they killed Jesus but fail to acknowledge that if their God had not accepted it it would not have been and their faith is to love, accept and understand that fate that brought him to his fate. Do you realize a lot of situations have happened that all it took was 1 to 2 voices saying something was not right to avoid them. Part of faith is speaking up against the wrong deeds that you have witnessed a part of faith is knowing that their are always others like yourself in that crowd that you may reach and save someone or maybe even more. I liken the bible to that experiment they like to do where you give one person a few sentences and that person has to repeat back the sentence and by the time it get's down to the last person it is all butchered and chopped that it barely makes senses at all.

The tower of babel is the 1st lesson where we learn of people being different and speaking different languages.
Before that in the bible we were all the same. I don't believe the bible promoted slavery of blacks. I do know that Joseph was sold by his brothers to be a slave... but Joseph wasn't black, so I would have to say that I just haven't a clue LOL
Sorry

Ther eis nothing in the bible that directly promotes the way African slaves were treated in this country and the subsequent treatment of their descendants up until even this day. Only people who wished to justify treatment used the Bible to cherry pick things out of context were able to find support from the bible.

The bible teaches love. The only thing we're supposed to hate is sin. People who call themselves Christians and do this type of thing are not following what the bible says. When people won wars they often took slaves. This was not promoted by god. It sounds as though you have been taught certain things. Maybe you should study it for yourself.

The Bible does not teach racism. At the time that the books of the Bible were recoded, slavery was an accepted institution. You cannot judge the Bible by current standards---that's mixing apple with oranges, which means that all you get is mixed fruit.

Man dreamed that one up all our on our own. One of the worst qualities on man is the need to feel superior to someone. Black/white, Nazis, school lunchrooms. None of these things make sense.
Yes, God allowed slavery to exist. It was man's invention but God put in laws to prevent cruelty and injustice. Also remember slaves were not black/white only! Each culture have been slaves even the same race or culture as slave/master.
God's arrangement is for mankind to be free. Freedom is relative. We are not free from the laws of physics. We are free to make moral choices.

Here we go again, to the Source of HATE. Here is a Prime example of the intervention of the evil one ( DEVIL) , to cause a problem with mankind. All need to REALIZE that this whole thing is a spiritual thing. Are you going to allow evil to keep coming into your minds, or, are you going to go with the GOOD, Peace, Love, understanding, compassion, you know, all the traits that DESTROYS evil.
I am a descendant of those that was in slavery...It is a HELLO to those that is in slavery to the EVIL one, because He caused it, and, just may have You in his grips right now. Evil is NOT good, and the Master of evil is Satan.
Don't hate people, HATE the EVIL !!!
I grew up in a KKK enviroment. I had so much "peer" pressure on me that when they first started to intergrate school, I was the first one in my school to start a fight. The one I started a fight with ended up to be my best friend ! When I turned 16 , I was able to ESCAPE from all that B.S. !!! I have been fighting " IT " every since....
PEACE...

"the Bible can still be used to promote division...."
No, it can only be misused or distorted to promote division. The same hammer that can be used to help build a house could be misused by a murderer to bash someones brains in. But we tend to judge things by how they are used when they are used properly, not by how they are misused.

The Bible is inaccurate in my opinion, there for irrelevant. It was written by Man, there for, not trustworthy as a real work of God. We're all human, no matter what our skin color. White man was stupid back then. If had lived back then, they would have hated me because I wouldn't have been that cruel and unfair to Africian Americans. I hate racism.
