Hey,

My cat just died and I have a question: Why do they twitch? My cat was on the ground twitching so my mom wrapped him in a blanket and he stopped and eventually died about 10 minutes later.

Why do cats twitch like that when dying?

The neurons are still firing. Not only cats... all living creatures to some degree. This can be very disconcerting but is normal.

Sorry you lost your cat.

Yeah, we had a cat who was 20 and she twitched when she was ready to die. She twitched for about 15 minutes and took one last breath and died. Sometimes cats twitch when they are sleeping, though, like my younger ones do. Their muscles and nerves must be relaxing. Same thing when they die, I guess, only they are shutting down for good. I'm sorry about your cat.

It's creepy, but normal as others said. I remember when one of my cats died years ago, I left the room after he was gone, came back about 10 minutes later, and he took this huge "last breath", that freaked me out so bad. He was already gone, but his body wasn't quite finished, if you will.

the nerves are still telling the muscles to move.. so they twitch instead of moveing like they use to when the brrain worked.. its kinda like why they pee---urinary muscles stop working correctly
