I don't think Ted Haggerd has yet confessed Jesus Christ his Lord and isn't born again yet. He is in a pre salvation state.
The devil chose to bring out his sinner behavior at a specific time to affect everyones perception of Christianity. I think it was about a week before voting.
He was anointed special (evangelico) by God as a child but he wasn't filled with the Holy Ghost because he hadn't truly from His heart confessed Jesus Christ his Lord. He isn't yet born of God. That is a dangerous place to be. So, he was manipulated by the devil.
It has been prophecied that he is going to be lifted out of the dirt & made whole (born of His spirit) and the calling to evangelize is still there. But only after he truly from his heart confesses Jesus Christ his Lord. Prophecied that he is going to evangelize to the gay community & many will come to Gods saving grace.

I do believe in ghosts ~ I have seen things ~ so really do believe ~ but I am not sure about demonic spirits ~ they make very good horror movies ~ and I believe some churches may mention demons ~ to scare people into going into their church ~ and faith by fear is not a good thing ~

Seems like he courted his 'sin' while making a point of covering it up in his ministry. He would have continued to do this if he hadn't been found out. So he is his own worst enemy. Christians need to take a little responsibility for their actions.

Ted Haggerd was dealing with the same temptations that every single person deals with. He was not being attacked by any particularly powerful enemy.

That's just an excuse that someone can use to pardon their bad behavior...I would (and I think most others too) be inclined to admire someone a great deal more if they admitted their mistakes and came clean and took responsibility for them instead of always claiming "an attack" by spiritual forces. It just makes them look like liars and irresponsible people. Christians claim God gives us free will...then why do you forget that so much and choose instead to go the avenue of "the devil made me do it".

Ugh... You see, the problem is, people focus more on "Ted Haggard had sex with a man" than "Ted Haggard is a lying maniac who contradicts himself and judges things that he has absolutely no right to judge."
He wasn't up against any evil spirits... get this. He is gay. Or at least bi. And does that matter? No. What matters is he's a total jackass.

Ted Haggard was up against a demon named, "Keith." Not sure which one Bush likes to tango with though.

Ted Haggard... that is the only demon that he was up against. He was trying to hide his sexuality by fronting an organization that frowned upon his sexuality. His only demon was himself.

Why is it that some Christians accuse atheists of wanting to avoid accountability, and then blame demonic possession when their leaders behave inappropriately?

You're saying that "the forces of evil" made him gay?
Wow.
He was a self-loathing gay man then and he's a self-loathing gay man now. The only thing that happened was that he sought to REPRESS his true sexual orientation and claim that he's "cured". It's what all "ex-gays" do.
