The preceding two answers are wrong. In theory, yes you can buy stock. It's been done. However the stock is closely held by one individual, the Burlington Northern SantaFe railroad, and maybe (I can't remember now) an insurance company. Amtrak is not exactly a government agency, although it is about 1/3 government funded. Money talks, so I'm not sure exactly what value the stock would be to anyone.

As many have said, I concur: No. You cannot buy stock in Amtrak is it is a government run corporation. It hasn't ever turned a profit anyway, so I doubt it would be a good investment anyway.

amtrak is a goverment thing and they ain;t making no money they are a loss why do you think more amtrak stuff gets closed down yearly and such a huge loss in ridership

lol at the "why would you want to" answer. You can't because it's not a publicly traded company. And as others have said they have never had net income. Operating income yes, but net income no. They have so much debt they will be in the red forever.
