I want to know how you would feel. Because if I am wrong and there is no God then when I die then I just decompose, but if I am right I go to Heaven and non believers go to Hell. I am not asking for stupid, hateful answers but how you would really feel about it. Try and be serious.

I like FEZ's answer. I did not think I would get very many serious answers form athiests. I was right, mostly a lot of name calling, babbling and people who think they would be bold enough to question a God that hold their very soul in the palm of his hand.

People do not see the signs all around them. When they hear about God they refuse to listen because they want God to be what they THINK He should be not not how He really is. There have always been disbelievers, and the more they deny the farther they go from God and from belief.

I like to tell atheists who bother me that if they are right it makes no difference to me because I am living my life the way I see fit and when I die it won't be like I regret anything because I will just be dust, right? But if I am right and God exists I have a much better chance then they do in the afterlife, they will regret. They think they won't but they are just denying the idea of it all together. They imagine it to be only what they want. I don't know why they need to keep bugging me, I don't push my beliefs on them.

What if you are wrong about the Hindu gods? What if you are wrong about the tooth fairy or Santa not existing?

Well, first off, it's not bloody likely, but lets say I am wrong, then I'm wrong and this god fellow has a lot of explaining to do as far as I'm concerned. However, considering the fact that he doesn't seem to be a reasonable guy (according to just the Christian bible), then he probably wouldn't explain anything. He'd probably just say "shame on you for not believing" and send me to hell. Now when you think about it, it sounds pretty ridiculous so I'm not too worried.

DRINK!

I'm dead serious! Pascals wager doesn't work. It could only work if firstly, you could control what you believe and secondly there were no other religions or myths in the world other than the Christian ones.

That's called "Pascal's Wager." There are a few problems with that wager. First, are you going to believe in everything that MIGHT exist "just in case"? Second--If you're going to believe in something "just in case" it's real, then you'd have to believe in ALL the gods that are believed in by various religions around the world.
If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. And if I'm wrong and there IS a God, then this is how HE made me. I would hope that God would be intelligent enough to care more about what type of PERSON I am than whether or not I "believed" in the right thing, or sufficiently kissed his tushie.

I'd say opps, logic failed me. I'm ok with having the possiblity of being wrong, at least I tried to think for myself and not mindlessly follow something out of fear or desparation. And if it was the god (cause there are a lot according to mankind) that would send me to hell based on what rules I did and did not follow, like support my gay realitives and friends or have sex out of welock, I'd be first in line for hell because that is an assine reason to condem someone. If it really was a loving god I'd say good on ya god, but why the hell did you screw up so much with humanity? I know I'm leading a ethical and moral life, I don't need someone to reassure me I am, least all a magical being.

I don't know. But then, if I flip the question and asked the theist, what would you do if there really isn't a God, then what would you expect them to say?

I'd guess an atheist would be a bit "oh, I was wrong, thats annoying because I'm probably in his bad books".

But you're never going to find out, because God is indeterminate on earth, you'll only find out when you die, and then you can ask some atheists [assuming an afterlife does exist and you have a mouth to speak with]

I don't have to worry about that scenario. There is not a god, and everyone probably for the first few moments in death will experience a peaceful rest as our brains shut down. This is the kicker I know that I am right and will see the end that I want to see just like your mind will provide a ending for you that you want to see.

I'm OK with being wrong. If it turns out there is a god, it would be smart enough to know that I have lived a very honest life and have always tried to do good things for others. I have done this without any expectation of getting into heaven for living my life this way.
I think you'll find that it's usually the religious types who don't consider the possibility they could be wrong.

There is a god in deism,if I were wrong,it wouldn't really matter. Are you referring to specifically the Christian god?I would think if this christian god is "good" why,it won't matter then either, because nobody is going to hell, and people have just destroyed his message. If the christian god turns out to be a god that really sends ANYONE to hell,it doesn't matter either,as I could not worship a being who's morals are so inferior to mine

Well then, god should have been more active in our lives. Providing misogynistic, middle eastern men of the bronze age with a very morbid story is not sufficient for me to believe. God should really know that being the creator of my brain, and therefore should not even come close to penalizing me for it.

Then God hopefully will explain why he let me be an atheist. It takes very little for an omnipotent being to let himself be known. If God wants people to follow him, then he has to do one simple thing: Let himself be known.

The Bible doesn't do it. It's a book written by mortals and redacted so many times that it's not even recognizable anymore. Preachers don't do it. They are mortals who don't know any more than I do about life. Furthermore, with all the scandals going on, how can you trust one preacher over another?

So, if I'm wrong, then it's God's will that I'm wrong. He made me the way I am. He made me inquisitive enough to question everything. He made me stubborn enough to insist on evidence and not faith. If this atheist is wrong, then it is God's will.

And I would certainly hope that God is not enough of a jerk to actually allow me to go to Hell for fulfilling his plan.

Although, if God is loving, then Hell is an illusion. No loving being would ever allow his creation to suffer in Hell. In that case, I lose nothing by not believing.

And if God is not loving and allows people to go to Hell, then do you really think that something so callous and cruel could be trusted to keep his word? In that case, even the believers could be cast into Hell along with nonbelievers. In that case, believers have no assurances, just like nonbelievers.

Edit: Just to sum up, if God is the spiteful, jealous god of the Bible, then I would feel betrayed and insulted at being his puppet of ignorance. If God is loving, then I would be a little confused at why he kept quiet all these years, but I'd look forward to learning from him in the afterlife.
