I'm questioning my religious beliefs lately. I don't think that I believe in Satan. I think that the evils of man are nothing but the choices we make as humans. I realize God gave us free will, so if we want to do evil, wrong things, why do we need someone around to tempt us? I think that's just a copout.

Why would Satan want to tempt us? Neither he nor his demons press themselves upon people who do not come to him of their own free will.

If only other gods behaved that way...

Bear in mind, believing in Satan doesn't mean you blame him for all of the world's ills. Do many people have evil inclinations? Yes. Do many people do bad things without needing to be coerced to do so? Yes.

Its easier to believe in Satan if you view him, not in the stereotypical view the world gives, as a guy in a red suit with horns, but rather as the Bible teaches he is. He was created an angel, and wanted worship that did not belong to him. Does he look different? Not nessecarily, except not he is a selfish and self serving angel, who's influence is behind the scenes. How is his influence seen?

Look at the world getting worse and worse. Some may point to various areas the world has improved in (I.e. medical discoveries, less warfare than a decade ago, etc) but look at the facts: 40,000 kids a day die of starvation. There are still wars and violence constantly effecting people.

Believing in Satan is NOT a copout. There are so many good people trying so hard to help others... But things get worse. Immoral lifestyles that were once frowned upon are now perfectly acceptable and normal. Most people who consider themselves Christian barely even glance at the Bible, let alone know what's in it, something that wasn't the case decades ago. Are people just... worse? No, Satan's influence is simply more and more apparent as time goes on.

Exactely what Satan wants us to think. The choices we make are indeed our own responsibility, but Satan's traps are many, and so is his influence.
