I would like to get contacts. I have a big problem with poking my finger in my eye. I am not sure I can do it.
What can you tell me to help me out. I have tried glasses, but cannot stand the lenses on my face and need to come up with an alerternative. I am 43 yrs. old

I am 28 yrs old and have been wearing contacts since I was 12. It is a little daunting at first, but I firmly believe that anyone can get the hang of it IF you give yourself time and practice. The doctor's office should allow you to try a trial pair for a few days to see if you even like them, some people don't. The doctor should also help you learn how to put them in before you go home and probably will not let you leave until you can do it. My method is slightly different from the way that they teach you, but it works for me. Contacts are wonderful, but they also have drawbacks, such as cleaning and possibly washing out if you cry or get something caught in your eye. You should also be aware, in case you don't know, that it IS possible to put it in wrong side out. It won't hurt anything, but will be quite uncomfortable. I would advise anyone to try contacts if your doctor approves. If it is possible, and it usually is, get the free pair and give it a whirl, what do you have to lose? :)

The way my optometrist taught me is to pull down your lower lid and look up as far as you can, then gently put the lens in on the sclera (the white part) of your eye. You can tell it's on there because you'll hear the little bubbles coming out from under it. Let your lower lid go and close your eye and roll it around a little and the lens will pop itself onto your cornea.

It's not uncomfortable at all and to remove it, you just take your fingertip and barely pull down on the corner of the lens until it's off of your cornea then you pinch it out.

It takes a little practice but I got the hang of it in just a couple of tries. I was never able to put my lenses directly on my eye either and this way has made it a breeze to wear contacts.

Contacts are scary when you first think of them. I first got them in 8th grade. I had hard lenses and they were really easy to put in and to take out. The hard lenses you don't even need to put your finger in your eye to take them out. You just pull on the skin near the outside edge of your eye and blink....and it pops right out.

Soft lenses are not difficult either, so I hear. You might blink a few times while you are trying to learn, but if you have a decent eye doctor he will teach you how to put them in and take them out. If you follow the rules, you will be fine!

Contacts can be great if you allow them to be. If you express your fears to your doctor he can help you out. Good luck!

i had great fun learning how to put lenses in, the place i got mine would spend ages with you teaching you how to do. and they wouldnt let me leave untill i was happy enough to do it myself. i've had both hard and soft lenses, found the soft ones so much easier to put in and take out - but also found them so much easier to rip.
then i thought sod it, and got laser surgery done last year.

its easy.
i found it weird at first as the optician did it for me and you can actually see (not that my eyesight is terrible, but i got them for image reasons being a teenager)
and now i can put them in without looking,
just try it.
its notas hard as you think
but stick to the hygeine rules.
i have had eye infections from being lazy with chaging the saline

good luck.
