How about recording him a mix of his favorite songs on CD or cassette? You could make your own birthday card. Write him a romantic poem. Make him his very own "coupon" booklet. I don't think that he would mind receiving a rose from you. Most guys would actually appreciate it. The main thing is just making whatever you do stand out. Don't the the same boring things that other people do. And if you can't do something on his birthday, you can always do something before or after it to celebrate. A lot of people do not celebrate a person's birthday on the exact day. A phone call wishing him a happy birthday on his birthday would be nice. I am sure that you will think of something great. No i think there great ideas lots of little gifts throughout the day are nice gestures. If you want to get him a cake too I'm sure the people he work with wont mind one bit and im sure he will like the effort youv'e gone to.

You could order a boquet of candy bars maybe a cd tucked in. I know that our local flower place will make a candy bar "tree" and it looks really cute and it could be his favorite candy bars. I don't think that guys really like flowers that well. Call your local flower store and tell them that you are trying to get something for your boyfriend. Stop by and give them his favorite cd to be added in. Or if he don't listen to music something that he likes. Hope that this helps you! A phone call on the day would go far also. Send a card through the mail personally from you...

Actually have you thought about meeting him the day before his birthday to give him his gift...
But as far as a gift, if your guy likes flowers then send it to him, but also think about sending some balloons instead (he doesnt have to do much with balloons as he would with flowers). Just a thought

maybe tickets to something you can both do together at a time that;s good for both of you? That way you can spend time together. If he has a favorite team you can get him a jersey or something sent to him from that team. Some guys do like flowers and others don't so it's tough to tell. Good Luck!

why don't you take him somewhere the night before or after his birthday??? it doesn't have to be costly or anything you can take him on a romantic picnic or a boat ride that would be romantic! make sure he knows that you really care for him like give him hugs and kisses and just hold him in your arms and don't let go!!

my boyfriend and I were in a long distace relationship for about 2 years I once sent him a picture frame that holds about 4 pictures put pictures of when we were together in it, along with that in the box I put some candy and a card (i sprayed the card with perfume (he says its his most tresured present)
