Jalapeno conversion?

I want to make Hoppin' John tonight, but I don't have a jalapeno. I have jarred jalapeno slices though. How much should I use to equal 1/2 a fresh jalapeno?

You could probably use 4 or 5 good slices. Remove the seeds of you don't want them too hot.
