It is a very catchy mythos, and makes alot more sense then some of the things that people believe today. Also, do you think that it is possible that the Bible started out as an ancient fantasy story that caught on?

The Sillmarilion has no character which even remotely resembles Jesus, so I can't see how it is connected to Christianity. Hinduism seems to be the closest match...

The metaphysics outlined in 'The Silmarillion' is more or less presented in that manner in every ancient Indo-European Paganism. Good read, though.
The same metaphysics are present in more or less every religion. These aren't 'new' or fundamentally 'different' stories, but the same Truth presented differently due to historical and cultural/geographic context.

Whilst there are obvious comparisons between many of the World's religious stories and those featured in The Silmarillion (for example Genesis and the Tolkien version of the creation of his world) I don't think The Silmarillion would ever end up as a serious religious text. It isn't complete enough to begin with, doesn't have a clear set of rules for people to follow, there aren't really any rituals or any of the things you'd commonly find in a religious text such as The Bible.

I do think it could be mistaken for a mythological text in the future though, in the same way that King Arthur and his Knight of the Round Table are English myths.

JRR Tolkien was a practicing Catholic he created the mythology of Middle Earth for England as is lost a lot of its early Myth. The ethos of the Tales are Christian there is a creator god and the elemental and a fallen one Melkor/Morgoth. If you want to follow Tolkien than discover the truth that is found in Christ.

Google the "Coin Of The Realm" Centralized Currency, the favorite uncle of fractional reserve banking, began as a religious product.. you will see that during the time of King James, anyone not using the currency of the king was ruled a heretic and subject to exactly the same torture and punishment as a "witch" .. God and Capitalism are bedfellows who's end goal is exactly the same... the Vatican is by example one of the "richest" states. Get rid of the profit motive and watch us take the next evolutionary step..

Why not? Look at the success Scientology has enjoyed, and a science fiction writer made that one up.

I think expecting people to read is expecting too much for the future.

Why not - it is as relevant as most religions and more sensible.
