I got some new food for them, hairball control. One of them got sick right after it ate it. You wouldn't believe the size of the hairball that came up, amazing it didn't choke to death!! Is this kind of food supposed to work like that and that fast??

It's Purina Special Care. The hairball was mixed in with the food he threw up.

No not really. Try Vaseline for hairballs. The food has a high fat content.Use the Vaseline once a month. Use @ 1/2 teaspoon full and apply it to the front leg so the cat will lick it off.I have had A LOT of cats through out the years and worked at a vet hospital for a long time doing grooming an animal care.I have never had a issue using the Vaseline and it's cheap. I have one cat that likes it so much that she licks it off of my finger. And they DO NOT vomit the hairballs up, they are supposed to pass them in their stool(poop).

Apparently he didn't throw up, but vomited a hairball. Did he throw up a lot of food with it? If so, maybe try mixing this food with the old one. Adjust the quantities so that he vomits the hairballs but doesn't throw up all that much!

No that's not the way it works but at least it worked.

I would suggest you mix it with the previous brand of cat food to get him used to it gradually. Sometimes they make pet food pleasingly tasty and the pets overeat and then get sick. Happens a lot. Especially in rescue where I get dogs that may not have had a steady diet of anything.

Cats puke often. When changing foods you have to do it gradually. You can't just change food in one meal. You should mix it with the old food over a week or so. You should contact a vet that specializes in cats only, they will tell you the same thing.

What brand of food are you giving him? The cat food sold at supermarkets is of very poor quality and will make animals sick or throw up. If he continues to throw up, I suggest taking him to the vet and changing their food to a premium quality brand like California Natural, Solid Gold, Felidae, Wellness, Wysong,or Innova.
