School buses can park on the street like any other vehicle.
In general, School buses get to park lots of places where a car can't. I drive a school bus, and Police have instructed me to park in Public bus loading zones, and in "No Parking" areas.
I've also never heard of a School bus driver getting a parking ticket, while I do know of drivers who have gotten speeding tickets.

It is all up to the place where you live, the town, city. In my city we are allowed to park on the street from 8 am to 8 pm after that we will be towed or ticketed. Check you local laws, they will know. But the short answer is. No it isn't illegal to park a school bus on the street. After all it is a insured, plated vechile. Some bus company's and school boards frown on the practice because of the size of a bus, and possible damage.

Yes, a school bus can be illegally parked. A neighbor of mine came home a for lunch a couple of weeks ago with her full sized school bus. When she parked, the bus blocked a handicap parking spot AND a fire hydrant. I don't care what you are driving (except for a fire engine or emergency vehicle) - you cannot do that and think that it is okay. Some people just have no consideration.

is the bus pickup or dropping kids?
are their red lights flashing? (you are required to STOP
if the school buses reds are flashing,.)
DONT PASS THAT BUS at that moment)
this means that some children will be crossing the street
in front of the bus.
