There is an office just down the road from my house.By the way,I live in a small village, the streets are quite narrow. The people working in the office have large 4X4 cars and they park half on the pavement and half on the road.My house is on the corner, and there have been many near misses with cars having to edge out to see if it's safe to pull out. It's impossible for ambulances etc to get through.I have reported this many times, yet they keep doing it.I have not seen a police officer or traffic warden even though I have kept reporting it.What can I do to get through to people before an accident happens?

Thanks for your answers guys n girls.Even the daft ones made me laugh.I have reported this to the local police, many times, nothing is being done.Local councellors don't want to know you unless it's to get to to agree to vote for them.I fear for the saftey of other drivers, and kids walking to local schools.Inconsiderate parking can cost lives.I just don't know what to do for the best. The law are not helping me at all.

Contact the office and talk to the manager, tell him that the cars parked there are a danger and ask his employees not to park there. If all else fails, take photographic evidence and then contact your local paper and MP.

My daughter had the same problem. A photo or two and an approach in person to the police brought some attention and a half-way result. The police advised the people to park a bit further away from my daughter's drive, so she could see better to pull out, but they PERMITTED them to park partially on the pavement - which I always thought was against the law anyway - given the narrowness of the road. The people complied with the police's solution, but it was not really satisfactory to my daughter. A long-term solution might have been to get permission to place a strategic mirror on the other side of the road. But she moved instead!

However, there is a requirement that enough space be left for emergency vehicles - and buses if on a bus route. I was once prosecuted for obstruction, when I myself had left enough space but someone came and parked opposite me, making the road too narrow for the bus - and we were BOTH prosecuted. That seemed unfair, but apparently it is in the highway code somewhere.

As a churchgoer myself, I feel I ought to offer apologies to the contributor who finds churchgoers parking badly. I guess we're the wandering sheep. But an approach to the vicar/pastor to make an announcement, and a plea in the church magazine, would go some way to help. Sorry - the church is a place for sinners to go.

Mas if you do not get any joy after contacting the office as suggested in another answer I would take a photo and send a copy along with a letter to the local newspaper. This will name them and shame them into doing something.

However, would the then vacant spaces be taken up by someone else that would be the worry.

Until there is an accident neither the council or the powers to be will act as it is probably not illegal for these people to park their vehicles where they do.

We just have to reply on peoples common sense and sense community to act differently.

Good luck in your quest....I have the same problem by the way with people parking off- the- roads vehicles on the corner of my driveway which just happens to be near a V shaped road junction. It is a nightmare for me but no one gives a damn. You would have thought though as these people are going to church when they park these vehicles they would be more considerate.

I would recommend that you definitely DON'T take the law into your own hands.

If you feel that you can talk politely and rationally to the drivers, why not ask them nicely to park more considerately.

Otherwise, (or if that fails to get a response) Contact your local police station and ask for the name of the senior officer. Drop him a letter explaining the problem and mention that you have reported this several times. Might be useful to enclose some photographs as well.

If that gets no response, your next point of contact would be the Chief Constable for the force in your area.

Only after all that that should you consider going to the press. If you do that, be sure and give them a copy of all letters you have sent and received on the matter.

Although you are free to contact your local MP about it, they probably won't get anything done as quickly as the police.

Hope you get things resolved soon.

Make your own news report and send it to the media. Get a video camera and a tripod. Set it up at your corner so the parking is in view, and interview yourself. Explain the situation, and how your requests for help have fallen upon deaf ears. If you can get a shot of an ambulance struggling to get through, that would be great. Then make copies and send them to multiple news groups.

Ring the council and tell them there's 20 illegally parked cars, at £60 a ticket that's a lot of money for 10 mins work - they should be there in a flash!!!

Failing that, do you know anyone who drives a skip lorry - I hear they can be careless drivers!!!!

Go to the city council or township hall. You can also walk into the local police station and ask to speak with the chief about it.
