Could be as simple as a sinus infection (sinus is all over your head & behind your ears, not just on your face). But it could be something more serious.

I'd take him to a doctor.

Likely a cold or flu.
Nothing too much to worry about. Keep him home, rest, lots of fluids. Medical treatment is not necessary unless:

the fever goes very high
your son's neck gets very painful and stiff
the current symptoms last longer than 7 days without improvement.

Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at

It could be a few things but don't let people here diagnose him take him to the MD and have him looked at. If his neck is sore this is a worry.

It could simply be a bad virus, or the flu, or strep or something more serious. A headache is something to take seriously.

Take him to see a doctor. it could be meningitis (serioious), or something simple as a sinus infection. If for nothing else, to get him some pain relief.

I'm not a doctor, but I know those are symptoms of meningitis (sp?). You should bring him to a doctor for a more complete diagnosis.
