There is always a compromise between quality and size of your recorded file.

MPEG probably means MPEG-2, best quality but the biggest file.
DVD is basically MPEG-2, but if you record it on DVD media, you can play it somewhere else
DVD Long play, means that it uses MPEG again, but at a higher compression - You can fit more on the disc, but at a lower quality
DivX uses MPEG-4 (part 2). At low bit rates gives better quality than MPEG. So, if you are constrained on disc space, use DivX. You can also make Divx CDs/DVDs which you can play on Divx-enabled players.

There is no best judge than your eyes. Try Divx and MPEG. If the DivX quality is good enough for you, use DiVx.

DIVX- This give you HDTV clarity and sound is also recorded in mp3 format and size of the file is also very less (compared DVD format). DVD is ok if you have large storage space and not planning to store in harddisk.
