You are a spiritual being and it is easy to tell when there is evil around us. People playing mind games, people who wish us harm. Then we have our own inner demons, the things we struggle to live with, things we can't forgive ourselves for, and we don't know how to face them, so our soul becomes crushed. You need to let go of fear, whatever deep down is hurting you.
Maybe you need to talk, or write, or confess, but you need to face yourself, be it through God, or whatever.

The devil is not a myth. There really is a spiritual realm and just because you choose not believe in them and you don't consider yourself religious, doesn't mean that spirits/demons will leave you alone.
The boundaries between the natural and supernatural are illusive. If you really are being bothered by a supernatural, evil spiritual being, you might want to consider the reality of good and evil. If there really is true good, there must be a Holy God. If there really is true evil, there must be an anti-God being.
Your plan to "block out" evil is not going to happen. Those who think that evil is some sort of psychological phenomena, with their origin in the human psyche, usually leaves actions of evil beings unexplained. Don't be gullible & don't try to rationalize away evil and evil beings.
There are many real things which cannot be verified, quantified, evaluated, proved or disproved by science.Reality has dimensions (or "levels") that transends science and must be understood in different ways.
Spiritual Reality: ultimate values like beauty, ugliness, good, evil, God, Satan.
Emotional/Personal Reality: Personal experience like joy, sorrow, love, pride, pain, pleasure.
Material/Scientific Reality: Physical things that can be tested in repeatable experiments.
The Devil is the ultimate narcissist. He is trying to restructure all of God's created reality in order to keep his own false sense of self-importance. If it were not for the saving and interceding role of Christ Jesus, we would easily succumb to the charges of our accuser--Satan.

Because not being religious does not keep the devil away. It actually causes them to be around you more. Most non religious people can't feel them around or are not worried because they are Satan's children.
If you have this fear of demons thanks God. You could not have any feeling at all.
Because you feel something this lets you know there are evil spirits. If there are evil then you know there are also good spirits. God is showing mercy on you. You are called of God. he's trying to get your attention, by allowing you to sense the demonic powers around you. Only Jesus can save you from this. You must receive him, where Jesus is the devil can't be.
If you don't have one get a bible (king james version) read it and study it daily. If you get to something you don't understand just read through it and come back to it later.
Find a bible believing church, you know them as you go along and study your own bible how they line up.
You can only get rid of these feeling through Jesus Christ. If you need to know anything else Email me.

First, realize that there are no spirits or demons, good or evil. Second, stop dwelling on them - don't read or watch shows that have them as part of it. Try talking to a counselor about it and other ways to deal with it.
Fear is a natural emotion that warns us when we are in danger, but often it can be an unreasonable fear that activates when we're in no danger - this is called a phobia.

I suppose the link between religion and demons is "belief." Religion, broadly defined, refers to an organized system of belief in and interaction with a supernatural power. This is not the SAME thing as believing in "God" or believing there is "something" out there.
So, do you believe in "God," or "something out there?" And do you actually believe in Spirits and demons -or are you just AFRAID of them? The question is not as nonsensical as it may at first appear:
I recall a youngster in my charge at a camp. We had just seen the movie, "Jaws." Even though we were located near the top of a mountain, hundreds of miles from the sea -or from any body of water a shark could navigate (up hill, at that), this youngster was petrified that Jaws would come crashing through the cement block wall of our building and attack him in his bunk. I reminded him of all these "facts," which he freely admitted were true -but still he was scared stiff. And so, even though you "know" that there are no evil spirits or demons -you could still be anxious about them. So I'm asking you -do you believe in them -or, are you just afraid of them?
As was the case of the youngster in my care -and possibly in your case, too, the evil beings were "token," place-holders, if you will, for unresolved and scary personal issues he faced, but could not articulate. In particular, his parents were near a break-up, and my young friend absorbed the tension and conflict which leaked out of the parental discord. That his parents would break up -and possibly abandon him; or worse, that he might be at fault for the division- was "impossible, yet "true," and so manifested in something else that was also impossible -but "true." He saw a psychologist, eventually, and the problem was resolved.
So, I ask you to take stock. When did your fears first present themselves? And what else was going on in your life then -or as much as 2 years to 6 months BEFORE then? There may not be and there need not be a particular "BIG" thing; rather, you may detect a boundary that represents the cumulative impact of various changes which, taken as a whole, made life different. This is sort of like adding tiny drops of black pigment to white paint. At first, no difference...then shades of light gray...then, when you look away and look back again-you've got dark paint!
And there may also be some big "boundary event," such as loss of a romance, death of a loved one, being fired from a job, huge debt -whatever.
The event or events in and of themselves are not as important as the shift in your thoughts and feelings they triggered; so, if and when you find anything, you've not necessarily found "the answer." The answers lie, rather, in your reaction to what happened, your perceptions and understanding of your own life. It may possibly be the case that ignoring what happened caused any anxiety to resurface in your "demons." All this is the stuff of therapy, so a few sessions with a qualified therapist can help dig through the evidence quickly, with the result that your demons lose their power of you. And I'm betting that "power over you" will have something to do with root causes -but let the therapist deal with that theory.
I refer you to the book "Operators and Things," by Barbara O'Brien. It is the story of her experience with "beings" who were so real to her that they iterally appeared in the flesh. I doubt that you are at her level of mental distress, but the book shows just how "real" the experience can be. Get it from the library -it costs nearly $60 on Amazon even though when I read it, years ago, it was in paperback for $1.50!
That you have sought some audience here on Yahoo is a good thing, but don't be too impressed with what you read here. Trust, instead, to someone whose qualifications are appropriate to your situation. You have the advantage of self-awareness and intelligence, so expect a pretty swift result.
PS: I have just read some of the other answers, that suggest the "devil" is bugging you and go on at length with descriptions of the devil, the nature of evil and what not. That stuff may or may not be true, but there is precious little verifiable evidence to support it. For whatever ELSE is going on, what we know is that YOU are in the center of it in all cases and therefore looking into YOU is the way to go -guided by qualified people.

Well, I used to be terrified at night to look at my windows, in case I would see a skeleton looking back at me. This had nothing to do with what religion I was at the time; it was completely irrational.
I guess the mind just does funny things.

Unless you ask Jesus to come into your heart and cleanse your spirit - the demons you feel around can cause you to harm yourself or others. So right now, Pray : JESUS COME INTO MY HEART, FORGIVE ME FOR MY SINS AND MAKE ME WHOLE IN YOU AND GUIDE ME IN YOUR PATH, I ASK THIS IN YOUR HOLY NAME - then you can demand the demons to live. Please just pray for God to help - he can and will if you believe.
