I've been on Wellbutrin XL for two weeks now for depression. The insomia started to get worse about a week into taking it. At first, I really didn't mind cause I had problems with sleep before I started taking it, but now it's just unbearable.

Before I starting taking Wellbutrin, there were at most two/three nights a week where I had trouble falling asleep and wake up feeling even more tired. Since last week, I've been having problems falling asleep AND staying asleep and it has gradually gotten worse every night.

I wouldn't mind the trouble of having difficulty to fall asleep and stay asleep, as long as I get some sleep in... but I haven't gotten any sleep AT ALL for the past two days! And the days before that, I probably had 3-5 hours of sleep a night.

I'd lay in bed right now, but it's no use... I can't fall asleep even though I want to and I'll just end up tossing around in bed anyhow.

Should I contact my doctor about this or wait a few days to see if it goes away?

Please call your doctor and work on getting a sleep aid.
I had trouble with insomnia for so long, and wouldn't ask for Ambien because there is such a stigma attached to it. i finally caved in because I was actually starting to feel like I was losing my mind from lack of sleep (I use Wellbutrin also).
I tried all the exercise, candles and special tea in the world...
He gave me Ambien and explained that the insomnia is may more harmful to your health than that pill could ever be if it is properly used.
That night I went home and slept like a baby with it.
I've used it for a while now, while being looked out for by my doctor and have felt so much better.
Take care of yourself and good luck!

See the section on depression treatments/resources at http:// www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris on page 2, and page 3 on insomnia, then visit your doctor ASAP (call first thing, or now!). I would taper off slowly, then consider my options very carefully, but it is up to you whether you want to just pop pills, or use the multi pronged approach of exercise, relaxation techniques, occupational therapy, good diet plus supplements and (possibly) herbal remedies. Cognitive therapy is helpful in most cases of depression. Doctors will just keep prescribing something different. It's your life.

I had the same problem .... and went on Ambien. It worked well for me, I stayed on it for about 3 months and was able to slowly ween back to regular 8 hour sleep. Go TODAY and tell your doctor whats going on. You are only hurting yourselve but not going.

I'd go ahead and talk to the doctor. I'd try to stay away from Ambien (a sleep aid) if I possibly could, though.
