I think you need to rephrase your question.

I don't see how the slope of a roof has anything to do with how long the ridge is.

Ridge rafters as opposed to the ridge beam are the parallel boards that support the sloped surface of the roof. Mr Mr 's last question "Building a house ?" was well worded. The length of ridge rafters does depend on the pitch of the roof.

If the roof is hipped, the ridge beam stops at the intersection of the hip intersection with the typical sloped roof.

If the roof was hipped, then the ridge beam is the same length as the length of roof perpendicular to the roof slope.
