I see myself as a good Christian...not because of the religion, but because of my relationship with God...I don't trash other religions and I don't expect people to trash mine...what is your opinion on this?

Everyone seems to be talking about Christians and Atheists, but they are not the only parties involved. If you really want to see people getting worked up, let a "non-believer" say something rude towards a Muslim and his religion...
Its not Christians or Atheists running with bombs strapped to their chests...

People with no respect for others who think they're right are mostly the ones trashing other religions. They have no respect for the beliefs of others, and aren't very considerate when stating their opinions about these types of things. I think people should really work on being more respectful and compassionate and maybe they'd get a bit of it in return.

If 100% of christians behaved respectfully towards others, then I'd agree with you.

At any rate, no person should attack other faiths, especially wisdom, wherever it is found.

Yet if you are talking of people who belong to a cult- eg a belief system that despises other ideas, that jealously guards its followers and repeatedly forces them into simplistic oaths and routines.

If you are talking about people who are fanatics- individuals brainwashed with limited information who believe they have the answers.

Then in both cases, you are dealing with people who haver serious problems.

So when such people, whether christian or other come on and cut and paste huge quotes of the Bible and attack others, you can't expect rational people to stand aside and simply say OK.

I think this happens because some, but by no means all, Christians are disrespectful of other paths and beliefs and talk dogmatically and rigidly alowing no space in the world for a person who might disagree with their POV. Wise Christians realise that differences exist and are tolerant of non christian beliefs and ideals and are willing to discuss rather that dictate.

Unfortunately, in the West Christianity interferes in everyone's life, and non Christians resent that.

Even without that interference in our lives, Christianity is so obviously wrong to some people they can't help putting the boot in occasionally when they see something particularly ridiculous.

Because christians in the general sense believe that it is not only their right but their god given duty to change my lifestyle.
Non christians interacting with christians is merely an adverse reaction to some no it all (Yes I said no it all on purpose) peice of crap tryin to dictate to them.

There is no reason to be rude to one another. If you are really interested in why an atheist is concerned about religion, watch this short video, it explains it nicely.

Respect?
Christians are trying to LEGISLATE religion!
Christians want MY child to pray in school.
Atheists don't go door to door pushing Atheism!

I'll respect Christianity when Christians respect us.

I say let people be whatever they want and accept each other without barriers

“Never judge a religion by its people, judge a religion by its scripture”

'You have your religion and I have mine' sounds like a surah(chapter) from The Qur'an.

Surah Al-Kafiroon
1. Say ( O Muhammad p ) "O Al-Kâfirûn (disbelievers in Allâh, in His Oneness, in His Angels, in His Books, in His Messengers, in the Day of Resurrection, and in Al-Qadar, etc.)!

2. "I worship not that which you worship,

3. "Nor will you worship that which I worship.

4. "And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping.

5. "Nor will you worship that which I worship.

6. "To you be your religion, and to me my religion
