You are quite right but addressing the wrong audience. The people you need to speak to are the islamic extremists who pervert your religion for their own ends. A suicide bomb in London pretty much sealed the PR for Islam - after such an event why would you find it strange that people are less than welcoming. I understand that not all muslims feel the same but the reality is that I am going to have at least a second look at asian men on the underground. The problem with Islam is not the religion itself but those who misinterpret.

This is called generalization disease...becuase acts of few ignorants are generalized for the whole community and this is done for muslims only....media is playing a major role in this..you are right there is a lack of communication..but in the sense the the world is not ready to learn the truth though muslims are trying to show it but they have closed their brians for truth....i wonder if all of the 1.6 millions muslims were terrorists..then this world would have been destroyed long ago...this is a very small point but just askig for some tolerance to learn that all!
peace !

Wow ... We are just living a neo-era of the crusade (recall George W Bush usage of the word Crusade.) People who don't seek to understand others will always have their prejudices prevail.

It saddens me as a Muslim to see how some in the West treats and looks at Muslims and Islam. To them an Israeli kid gets killed and it's front news, but when a family on beach picnic or a family gets blown up by the Israeli Army it gets page 22A coverage.

In Iraq after the debacle of bad intelligence on Iraq's WMD, the cause of war shifted to Democracy. However, when Palestinians elected Hamas democratically, the West was not ready to deal with that government.

As a Muslim I acknowledge not doing due diligence in better reaching out to people in West for better understanding, but I also think that those in the West who are constantly blaming Islam are mistaken in not seeking out to understand and are contributing to the hatred and prejudice against Islam.

"They hate us because of our freedom." A statement that never makes sense becomes a war doctrine.
Having freedom is not the basis for hatred. Injustice on the other hand could lead to hatred.

media goes like this, 'a muslim man did this or that', but when eg. a christian man did something they never say that. Why, i dont know. and its constant. I thought, if that guy who killed all the students at the university in USA, was muslim - can you imagine the headlines? and not once was his religion questioned and mentioned- they talk about muslim presidents, but you dont hear them say christian presidents go fight empty wars..... every time period needs an 'enemy' and its like the world has decided, this time its muslims, before it was 'black persons' , 'jews', 'witches' - you name it anything different, to the forced idea of normal is being ostracized. it goes down to an even more basic level where if you have morals, and try to maintain them, then its a problem. i dont know whats happening to the world, honestly, i just hope and pray all the animosity will end someday soon.

I dont hate all Muslims, just the extreme ones, who refuse to accept other religions in the world. No person on this earth is better than another and its about time some Muslims realised this and stopped the terrorist strikes which keep happening. If their religion is based on peace and love, I guess they start to practise what the Curran says.

Because everyone has become afraid and prejudiced by all of the crazy, radical, extremist terrorists that have been using a beautiful religion to kill others in the name of. Then to make matters worse fundamentalist Christians want to rid the world of all religion but theirs and use the terrorist to jade people about all of Islam. I have read on Islam and think it to be a beautiful religion,

I think it may be to do with this attitude of 'my way or the highway' mentality that muslims are perceived to have. All power to you if you are muslim but that goes for jews, gentiles, atheists, catholics, buddhists etc. etc. People are free to worship in whatever way they choose and should not have to put up with others dissing their religion and proclaiming theirs is right or better. Its obvious that religion is different interpretations of the same thing (a belief in an supreme being) so seen as people are all heading in the same sort of direction why can't we just all get along.

I don't think Muslims are 'hated' as such - like the answer before, it's the 'extreme' terrorist type muslims that are not liked.

they are living in countries that they seem to hate and plot to blow up and kill innocent people - I don't understand that... if they really don't like it here, they should maybe consider going back to their own country (...)

plus - the majority of muslims do not seem to integrate with society, they tend to mingle within their own types, yet they say they feel victimised and that they want more rights and they find this and that offensive

I have muslim friends who are not like this at all though.

The media says there is a problem, soooo - people believe it and make the media's allegations real.

also...
Muslim Clerics who preach war, etc don't help the situation.
Burning effigy's and screaming Jihad don't help either,
Muslims that carry Bombs onto buses, etc - really don't help.

The people who perform those acts just make things worse for everyone.

And whilst were on the subject of making things worse - the UK and US Bombing the **** out of the Iraqi's - that really didn't help...

i certainly dont hate muslims, a-salem a laikum to all muslims reading this.

it seems that the mainstream media likes to demonise them and focus on the extremist fringe of islam that is present in all religions, look at the lunatic christian right, its just that extremist islam gets focused on.
Gearge bush says "they hate our freedom", think about that, it doesnt even make sense!, how can you hate someone elses freedom?

In britian, we had terrorist attacks by the IRA for years, yet catholics dont get demonised the way muslims do do they?

it is all part of supporting the governments war on terror, if all these people are seen to be crazy fanatics ,then joe public wont mind our armies bombing the hell out of their countries in order to make a land grab and steal the oil that lies in the middle east.

it's sick, and we need to speak out against it, not be brainwashed by the media, then we will have respect and understanding for different faiths and cultures.
it is everyones duty to speak out and act against extremeism, no matter what faith it is.
