yes well the general rule is that:
Hajj is obligatory on every adult Muslim who CAN afford to go to Makkah during the hajj season, whether on foot or by any other carriage.

Hajj is obligated only once in one's life. After performing the obligatory hajj; one is not required to perform it again. However, he can perform the nafl (optional hajj as many times as he or she wishes.)

I dun think ne1 feels it optional

it is not an optional thing if u r well and able to go to kabba physically and financially u must need to pay pilgrimage at least once in ur life and as many times u want but this is not optional.

actually both muslim men and women are required to perform haj at least once in their lifetime if they can finacially afford it without causing themselves difficulty.

it is an esential part of islam and you should do it if you can
