Depends on the cause.

Try Neutragena T Gel. The trick is to let it work for 3-5 minutes before rinsing out.

I had a major case of hair loss resulting from an out of control eczema on the scalp. The root cause was psychosomatic but it resulted in a very real issue.

The dermatologist I was seeing just prescribed Rogaine, and other steroid creams. Which I refused to take. Finally one day on a check up he used the words eczema like/psoriasis like. I walked into a drug store brought a bottle on Neurtagena T Gel et voila!!!!! It was like magic.

It did more in 4 days than the other expensive over the counter treatments combined in almost a year

Good luck.

Both hair and skin shed naturally on a regular basis. Shedding skin is what dandruff is. So you cannot get rid of it. Brush your hair every night, about 100 strokes with a natural bristle brush (like boar bristle.) It will help the most shedding to occur at night, so not as much is seen during the day.
Hair is lost everyday, about 100 hairs from your entire body. Some areas shed hair together, so it may seem like a lot are falling unnaturally, but it's really not.

Now, if the falling hair really is bad, for example, you see large clumps of hair coming out, leaving balding areas, then you need to see a doctor. It's often caused by stress, but have it looked into by a professional.
Also, if the dandruff is not the tiny, white flakes you are used to seeing, but instead, is larger "plates" of skin that fall, or remain stuck to your scalp, that needs a product only a doctor can prescribe. Both these conditions are rare, but do happen. I hope yours is the natural, ordinary type.

Fauzia,
A fat eating yeast-like fungus called malassezia, formally know as pityrosporum, is the most common cause of dandruff. Although this fungus lives naturally on everyone's scalp, it sometimes grows out of control causing dandruff. This fungus feeds on the oils secreted by hair follicles and causes irritation that leads to increased cell turnover. This is what causes the flakes known as dandruff. It is not clear what causes the overgrowth of these organisms but hormonal fluctuations, stress, illness neurological disorders, a suppressed immune system, bad hygiene and a sensitive scalp can contribute.

The best way to get this under control & keep it undercontrol is see your dermatoligist.

Hope this helps,
Carol K.

Buy Nizoral from your local drug store.
Ketoconazole, the active ingredient in Nizoral, is very effective on dandruff and some research has shown it can prevent and reverse hair loss. It seems to be the only thing that worked on my dandruff. Cheers.

Edit: A word of warning, it's not meant to be used regularly as it can have bad effects on your liver. You should only use one bottle over about 2 - 4 weeks time and that should cure it.

Get shampoo with coal tar in it (it really does work) and use it at least TWICE per showering.

Make sure you wash your hair every day and comb/brush it afterward a thorough drying. Don't use hairspray or mousse and DON'T wear a hat or cap.

You'll still have a bit of dandruff that shows up, especially during the first week of treatment, but it will reduce heavily later.

Talk to your doctor, too. You might have a skin condition.

Well, seleen is the main ingredient of anti-dandruff shampoos, so how about eating more garlic? This contains loads of seleen. Hair fall is lack of vitamins A, E, iron, magnesium and zinc. Eat darkgreen and orange vegetables, eggs 3-5 and whole-wheat bread.
