Hi everyone,
Im designing a wheel barrow. Does anyone know of any website that can help/enlighten me on the process of manufacturing the actual product?
I mean what are the follow up of the design process, how the components(frame, wheel barrow container) are made, what are the other things to consider..

My friend, manufacturing is not something that would possibly fit on this page, and you can learn in a snap!
Here are some of the steps you have to go through:
1) Prove the design - tolerance calculations, reliability tests, availability of raw materials.
2) Design specification - detailed drawings, of all parts and of the assembly, material specifications, test specifications.
3) Feasibility - Is there a market for this product, and at this price? Reasulting therefrom: Production quantity projection. This quantity will also determine your material cost.
4) Costing - sourcing and obtaining quotations for materials, calculating labour cost and overheads. Determining a sales price. Feedback into 3) above (still feasible?)
5) Cash Flow - Do I have the financial means to buy all that material, before I can get money back from sales?
6) Capital Investment - What kind of machines, how much (factory space) do I need, and how many workers do I have to hire to manufacture this product? (Also feeds back into cash flow under 5) )
7) Working Capital - how do I keep my stock levels of material and finished products ( = cash flow) as low as possible? What is my marketing and sales stragey?
8) Insurance - Do I need product liability insurance, and/or workman's compensation insurance?
9) Production flow - Design a production layout that ensures a smooth sequence of production steps with a minimum of time and material waste.
10) Quality control - Design a test station where the quality of the product is verified, better still, design quality procedures during manufacturing that keep end-of-the-line quality checks to a minimum.
I forgot: item 2a) Outsourcing - decide which parts you want to make in-house, and which ones you buy-in pre-manufactured.
Now you can (maybe) start putting your wheelbarrows together.....!
