The location got cut off... anyway, any files inside the C:\Windows folder that come with the Windows is always essential for the well-being of your computer. When you say the Xp disk do you mean the recovery cd? The one that came with your Dell when you first bought it? That is the same CD that's used for system installation and system recovery.

> Once you get hold of that recovery disk or any other XP cd, in your BIOS set the CD to load first, then when it prompts you to run the CD press any key to continue.

> Inside the Windows disk options select REPAIR (not the one with the recovery console, but you can also do that if you know exactly what file you're missing and where the file is located on the CD)... Look around in there and play around with options. As long as you don't select one that says "format" or "fresh copy" then you'll be okay.

> After the recovery the computer should automatically place the missing file back into the right place.

Best of luck!
