My understanding of the term "of the world" refers to the earthly things which we can see, i.e. jobs, food, money, feelings. These are things which "We see, therefore we believe." These are called "temporal" in the Bible.
True Christians are called to live in the "spiritual" rather than the "temporal" world, because this is an exercise of our faith of the Lord's ability to do the impossible. The Spiritual world are those things "We believe, and so we see." This is not referring to a delusion or hallucination, but to faith.
Sorry if I did not explain it too well. Five years ago, I would have pronounced judgment on this as "bologna" or worse. And, I still called myself a Christian, but the worst kind, a lukewarm, "worldly" Christian. It was like being a little pregnant. No can do! We either have faith or we do not.
Hope that helped some. God bless.

Hi Stephanie
There is a verse in the Bible that says. "You are in the world, but not of the world." This is essentially saying that a Christian should live a different life to those people that are not Christians. They should do things differently and act differently though this is not always the case you have most probabaly found.
If you came into our world it would take a while for you to understand all the language and Christian cliches.
You are pretty good at Yahoo answers though with 24%. You fit into this world really good!
Cheers!

We are called to live in a different world. Yes, we are still a part of this world, but as the song goes, This World is Not Our Home.
So you and the 'normal' people can understand that, can't you?

Christians are in this world but not of this world. Christians are not to be focused on the temporal things of this world. Of course today's believers are very far from what the Bible teaches. very far indeed.

Don't try to rationalise anything a christian does, because you wont be able to, unless you believe in the words of their little black book of hate.
Blessed Be!
