Why do birds sing in the morning?

Are they singing or are they just communicating to other birds?

Answers appreciated.

Thanks

It seems that they sing so much in the morning because they have to be quiet at night because they can't see their predators, which they can at dawn. They sing a lot anyway to attract mates, define territory, communicating to other birds or they are just happy to sing a song. I have no problem with the birds singing in the morning. I love the sound they make.

They sing to communicate. What you may not know is that, with few exceptions, it is the males that are doing all the singing. They sing to attract a mate and to announce their territory. Each day, as soon as possible, the males want to make sure that everyone knows that they are alive and well and ready to defend their territory. What is interesting, although it may all sound the same to us, is that there is some evidence suggesting that each bird has its own unique song and other birds know it.
Another reason why birds sing at the crack of dawn is that the pre-dawn hours are usually the quietest part of the day. The sun hasn't had a chance to stir up the air. The birds’ voices are a lot clearer without having to compete with the sound of the wind blowing through trees or without having to be heard above those annoying backup beeps on dump trucks.!!!!!!

Actually we think birds sing when the sun rises and sets when in fact they sing throughout the whole day.
The rest of the day, they are busy flying around hunting for food (and they need a lot of it) so there is less time to sing although they still do.
Birds sing in order to annouce their right to territories and also as a way to communicate with other members of their family who may have gotten separated at dusk. Cockatoo and Amazon owners will know this only too well.

During the day itself many birds sing. These birds sing in order to attract females during the mating season. Unless you are in a quiet wooded area, you wouldn't be able to notice them singing.

In Southeast Asia where I live, the tradition of keeping songbirds have been praticed for thousands of years and some birds are indeed prized for their singing prowess. I notice they sing very much the entire day, even the wild ones.

The distinction between songs and calls is somewhat arbitrary. Ehrlich et al. say that songs are longer and more complex, and that calls tend to serve such functions as alarms or keeping members of a flock in contact, while songs claim territory and advertise for mates. Other authorities such as Howell (1994) make the distinction based on function, so that even short vocalisations such as those of pigeons are considered songs—and even non-vocal sounds such as the drumming of woodpeckers and the "winnowing" that snipes' wings make in display flight. Still other investigators say that song must have syllabic diversity and temporal regularity akin to the repetitive and transformative patterns which define music.

Bird song is best developed in the order Passeriformes. Most song is emitted by male rather than female birds.

I think communicating, I heard a cardinal singing a song the other day, another Cardinal was answering with the same call in the distance, yes it's "Spring", love is in the air, I'm not 100% sure why they sing but, I'm sure glad they do !

They sing throughout the day. I've even heard some sing at night. I think it's mating and territory calls.

i think they are just too happy to see the sun and day light.
it's after all another day again and they are happy to be still alive...(because they have to face a lots of danger and prevents themselves from getting killed) they are calling out to tell others how happy they are.. and also to informed them "they're still kicking and alive".

I believe they are praising God their creator. They do not sing to one another. They will chirp and chatter, but not sing.
