I want to make my car sound like a night club...I'm talking about the whole deal...new head unit, amp, subwoofer...you name it. I just don't know how much I will be spending...I have a Kia Sephia so I don't think I want to spend much considering the car is pretty much worthless already...
Any ideas on brands...prices....how to install it?
I'm a girl but i'm pretty handy...I can do it myself...
Thanks!!!!!

Here's a system setup that gives you great sound on a budget, and allows for future expansion:

--A new CD player with front, rear and sub pre-outs
--A 4-channel amplifier
--New front speakers
--A single subwoofer

You DO NOT need to spend money upgrading the rear speakers if you're adding a subwoofer. Just keep them stock. The main function of the rear speakers is to provide more bass, give you the illusion of more space by providing a rear fill effect, and play sound for the rear seat passengers. The subwoofer will take care of the bass, and stock speakers work fine for the other two functions.

What you'll be doing is using two amp channels to run the two front speakers, and bridging the other two channels into a single high-power channel for the sub. If you're just looking for good sound inside your car, you don't need two subwoofers; one will do just fine.

Here's a sample system put together from Crutchfield that would work well in your vehicle:
Head unit: JVC KD-HDR1 $159.99 This is the first head unit with HD-radio built in. It's also a good quality, easy to use unit with lots of features for the price. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5zuWYPHZqua/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&I=257KDHDR1
Front speakers: Polk dB 5 1/4" component set: $149.99
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5zuWYPHZqua/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=400&I=107DB5250
Amplifier: Rockford P450.4 $239.99
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5zuWYPHZqua/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=120&I=575P4504
Subwoofer: Rockford PL2-112 4-ohm subwoofer in ported box $149.99

You'll need a mounting kit and wire harness for the CD player installation, and a wire kit for the amp install. If you order from Crutchfield the CD player parts will be free; otherwise budget about $30 to $40 for those two parts. Be careful buying the amplifier wire kit; lots of kits sold online use thin wires with thick jackets so it looks bigger than it really is. You'll need an 8-gauge kit with my setup, and two RCA cables. A good place to buy an amp wire kit is KnuKonceptz:

Total cost: about $750.

If you upgrade or change vehicles, you can add two rear speakers and use the 4-channel amp to run the fronts and rears, then use a second amplifier for your subwoofers (and add more subs if you want).

Get a $125 Alpine HU. Get 4 new Alpine door(dash, pillar, what have you) speakers. Get a 1000watt Alpine PDX amp. Get two Alpine TypeR 10" subs. Get a ported box, tuned at about 50Hz FOR the subs. Get a wiring kit for it all.
You'll be ready to rock! Or rap, whichever you prefer.

Go to your local stereo shop (the little guys, not BestBuy or CircuitCity) to have it all hooked up.

This'll cost you about $1000 plus install, sound reasonable to you?

Good Luck!
