Daniel R_Fair comment about it not being reunited,I felt passionate about people trying to attribute the work of men to a made up fictional god with no proof therefore was too hasy in my first part of the question...

Pete-I already admitted my oversight on the reunification bit if you read my further comments, if you didn't fair enough. I am no Tony Blair lover and know that John Major started the ball rolling but I think if he hadn't carried it on we would have had some right wing tory giving it the usual 'I am not shaking hands with a terrorist' propaganda sh*t. then we would have got nowhere. If people in the middle east would look at this as an example then maybe they could begin to sort that mess out over there.

You are so right...Nobody thanks god for earthquakes and storms. Nobody thanks him when a plane crashes or there is a multiple pile up on the motorway.

First of all Ireland isn't being reunited and I have no idea where you got that idea from! A power sharing executive has been formed in the North and you can guarantee that one half of that executive has no interest in a united Ireland.

Second Tony Blair is only a part of this whole process which has being going on for many years involving many key people, you can hardly single it down to him.

I am not religious but I sometimes say "thank god" just as a turn of phrase, what’s the big deal?

What's wrong with people saying 'thank God' if they believe in him in the first instance.
A lot of the Irish people say that, no harm is intended. I say thank God and Tony Blair. I believe God loves to be able to have the chance to work through us, so why not Tony Blair. He's not all bad, anymore than the rest of us.
I don't thank God when something bad happens, because nothing bad comes from God.

I thank God when something bad happens. If you can't understand why I would do that then read a little more.

I thrive on being resistent to those things that would normally stop a person in their tracks. I defy the circumstances in Jesus name. I am grateful for the chance to do so.

By the way, I really don't think that you were being fair about the whole 'thank God' comment. It wasn't an admittance to Tony Blair being God, it was directed past Mr. Blair to the recognition of who gives power to whom.

Ireland isn't being reunited at all. What's happened is that they've restarted the devolved executive in Northern Ireland, with power sharing between the Unionists (Ian Paisley) and the Republicans (Martin McGuinness).

However, I agree with you that it is interesting that people only give god the credit for good things, and never blame him for the bad things. If there's a crash and six people die but one lives, then it is a 'miracle' that the one person survived. What about the other six? Was it not a miracle that they died, too?
