There are a couple of advantages when using a stainless steel pump over a cast iron pump.
First cast iron can badly corrode when exposed to corrosive fluids like sea water.
Secondly stainless steel is more wear resistant to cavitation than cast iron.
Third stainless steel can be used in semi hygienic application where cast iron being porous cannot.
