I speak some Japanese, and so I wanted to put this down as a skill on my resume/CV. I wanna be honest in my desrciption of the level Im at...I speak Japanese of the type where youd be ok in most holiday situation i.e ordering food, introducing yourself, buying things, talking about likes and dislikes etc, plus Ive done a little more besides...but I dont know how to define the level Im at...Basic? Intermediate? Conversational?

Just curious, but how many years/semesters have you studied? Well, since you are putting this on a resume, if an employer has a different idea of what the difference between "beginner" and "intermediate" is, you could run into trouble. So maybe try a more descriptive label for your skill level? From what you've described, if we went along with the ILR scale , I'd say you are level two, "limited working proficiency."
