please read to the END ok...because for many of the Qs i have asked only about 2 people read to the end and gave an appropriate answer.the rest just babbled on.

why do most christians try to get others to believe in God? christianity is pretty well known and when people say they don't believe in it,the MEAN it..because they've heard the same thing over and over again....i mean it was different in the ancient times ..that was people's "duty" to tell others the good news....

but now that christianity is well known, why don't you just let PEOPLE decide for themselves whether they want to convert or not and NOT talk about it unless ASKED?

because what you're saying to people isn't something they HAVEN'T heard....the only thing you're accomplishing is actually pushing people AWAY from christianity ...

so why can't you mind your own business?

If we all minded our own business, there would be no need for this forum. And not everyone has heard all that they want to know, therefore they ask and we answer. We try to share with others because that's what we are called to do as christians out of our love for others. This is not an "ancient" thing to do, but has never stopped. You are right tho, that if someone does not want to hear or accept the truth, then we are not to push it on them. So, if you do not want to read about the truth in Jesus, you do not have to read. Just skip over them. No one is forcing you to read our answers. Everyone can share on this forum, no matter what faith they are. God bless

There is more than one reason for a Christian to talk about Christianity here. Yes, I think that one of those things is what you are going on about. I'll number them, then maybe you'll understand better.

1) Witnessing: I think that's what you are talking about. That's where we activly set aside ourselves to bring the word of God to people in a somewhat formal fashion. There is likely to be quotes from the Bible, and paraphrased verses included in this form of communication.

2) Testimonials: people talk about what happened to them so that someone might have gone through the same thing- they realte and therefore are on a similar level of understanding.

3) Apologetics: The ability to defend the Christian faith. Whether the emphasis is to sharpen the ability, or to actually pursue the subject so that it can be understood by the reader.

4) Feeling good about it all: Just visiting people and letting them know that we are happy for the moment in the knowledge that we are saved and have eternal life ahead.

Now with the risk of injuring our cause, we still might demonstrate our faith in the face of adversity. Allow us that, especially here. The Religious and Spirituality Section is thought to be a place where Christians may actively share what's on our heart. If a person didn't want to hear about it, why post the question? Why be in this place.

Now while some people are good at it, and some people are not good at it, we can be better at it if we keep sharpening our wits and our spiritual reflexes as we go.

Please allow us that.

For most it's not really trying to push people away. Unless you really study up on the religion, meaning any religion, then there are things that you miss out on. Right now alot of people think that Christianity is just an arobic church where the pastor touches the kids. But if you read up on it and study the religion, like most people don't, then you will find that there is a reason for everything. I was born and raised a Roman Catholic, but I am not any more. I know that they only want to try to help people that they feel can be helped, they dont intend on pushing people away from the church they just come on a bit strong at times.

I completely get it. I've had so many people trying to push their christian views onto me it's ridiculous. It's weird though. I get christianity pushed onto to me almost on a daily basis and yet I very rarely hear other religions trying to push their views on me. I'm Atheist and I'm sure there are MANY other people out there like me that are either Atheist or Agnostic. You can't blame all christians though. Some have the courtesy to just leave you alone. In fact it's weird. Who would've known an Atheist's best friend would be a Christian. It is possible to find some christians that don't try to make other religions seem horrible.

I don't understand it either though. If you walk up to any given person on the street and ask them to name a random religion, I bet that 99% of the time you will get the answer "christian"

I read the whole thing! Are you proud of me?

Christians have a very shaky platform for their belief system in the first place and therefore it is VERY important for their entire social network to back them up in that belief system. The only way that they feel that they can accomplish this task is to recruit everyone into their particular sect of their particular religion (it's amazing how many time a church as divided due to politics). Without the rest of their social network believing exactly what they believe THEY THEMSELVES may start to question their own beliefs and then they themselves may start to think on their own and then they themselves may realize that it just isn't logical and then the worst thing of all happens... They would then give up their religion and stop dropping money into the offering plate, stop putting money into those little envelops in Sunday school and stop going to make purchases at 'Life Way Bookstores.' And you know what happens then, those preachers might have to go out and work for a living rather than working them all up every week.

Personally, the only time I get pushy about religion is when others try to tell me what I believe. I happen to belong to a sect of Christianity that is so often misunderstood, I catch myself getting defensive pretty quickly. I'm always happy to answer sincere questions, but too often, someone will ask questions, then use that to start arguing with me... not so keen on arguing about religion. Maybe some would interpret that as being pushy... sorry.

I know what I believe, what I think, what I feel, and it's become a pet peeve of mine- when people assume (especially when they're wrong) that they know what's going on in my mind and heart.

Guess the pushing can go both ways.

All your questions and answer have been under religious topics. It seems as though you are pretending like you don't want to know who God is?
To answer your question, unfortunately there are those who throw there ideas upon people. I have experienced this feeling and was "pushed" away from God for a very long time. I chose for myself to find out who God was, because I decided not to Judge God according to what other people do. I know i dont want to be judged because of what someone else does. I decided that I would be different and not be like those people. God uses everyone in different ways. Those people who push ideas onto people, sometimes lead people to God, which is good. People have to choose for themselves and if someone pushes them away from God because of the way they try to explain there idea, that is pretty sad. If someone goes out on the street and screams 2 + 2 = 4 and is abnoxious about it, does not mean it isnt true.

Nice attitude.

You're right as far as the fact that there are a lot of people who have HEARD about God and Christianity, but considerably fewer have experienced God's power, love, and presence first hand. If we Christians were to "mind our own business" as you ever-so-politely put it, there would be even more ignorance about what it is to be a true Christian than there already is.

You know when you find something amazing you want to tell everyone about it. Its like that. They are not doing it to be annoying or to make you mad. Its like they found a secret treasure on a hill and want to share with you. They have so much passion for God and want to share what they have learned. Of course its known but do most people really know the gospel? The gospel is good news of a God that loves everyone more then we could imagine. Who wouldn't want to share that.

Well, I don't remember ever holding someone down and spoon feeding them the Lords word.
I will ask questions concerning my Faith if I feel that I would like to have a debate about it, or if I want others thoughts on it.
No one has to answer or read it for that matter.
But with that being said, the shoe fits on both feet and goes for all Religions and those who don't believe
