I am on morphine as well as 10 other highly dangerous drugs and he says that my prognosis is "guarded" I have had this for more than 10+ years and its seem to be getting worst. Should start gitting a plot or do I have some time. I am at the "27th year post radiation. The doc says this is aslo call Post Radiation Damage, or ATM... so now what, am I to start looking for a nice grasses hill under the big Oak Tree?

Guarded means it could go either way.
Stay prayed up, but prepare a will.
I hope it turns out for the better!

No. Don'y give your baseball cards away.
You're on morphine. That's probably reason enough to be in "guarded" condition.
:Guarded means just that, you aren't in "good" condition, but you're a lot better off than someone who is "critical." Next timeyou talk to a nurse from your hospital ask her to explain this to you.
The only oak tree you'll be under is when you sit under one when you go fishing.
Good luck.

That is also my condition - I am here trying to answer this same question - thanks to everyone for the answers - I have a Nephrostomy tube in my Kidney and I can see now why my condition would be guarded - on pain meds too. They do not know if they can fix it yet and if they do how the outcome will be so yes perfect sense.....

Stat is short for the Latin word statim, meaning immediately. It is not an acronym. Usually the medical care provider needs the instrument, blood test, etc., in a critical or urgent situation.

Think of it as meaning "I'm guarding my a** on this one" meaning he doesnt have a crystal ball and doesnt want to be held accountable for making a decisive diagnosis.

Go ahead and make your plans anyhow - simply by virtue that you might step off a curb and get hit by a bus any day, and you wouldnt want someone else making those decisions for you - y'know what I mean?

be well - peace

This usually means that he really does not know whether you will get better, stay the same, or improve. It is a catch all phrase. I simply means that your condition will be monitored on an on going basis
