I would have to say VERY DANGEROUS, considering how it worked out for the One who showed us His example. But that's the subversive message of Jesus - to end violence and conflict by taking suffering upon oneself, to die rather than lash out. Very Dangerous.

Then again, Jesus didn't come to bring us a political strategy for success.

Yes and no. I used to be Christian and forgiving has both put me in dangerous spots and some not dangerous ones. For example, at a Mexican restaurant I used to work at my manger sexual harassed me. He confused to it right away, when I told the boss above him. And because I told my boss that I could forgive him because it’s the Christian thing to do but he still needed consequence for it, I was told I was a liar (Because Christian or not no one would forgive someone what he did to me. So that makes me a liar). So, nothing happened to him and I was let ago a month later. On the other hand my mom put me on the streets, and a later year because I was able to forgive her we have a good bond again. I think it can put you in a dangerous place. You get used a lot by people that aren’t Christian, and people that say they are. Just because they know you will forgive no matter what. I think a lot of it depends on the people you surround yourself with.

It is important to forgive if you have been wronged, not only because the bible says to forgive, but because forgiving releases you from a prison of anger you have created for yourself. The bible does not say you must forgive in order to be forgiven. Whether or not you are forgiven is between god and yourself. Being victimized is extremely humiliating. It is hard to forgive someone when you know they are not repentent. However if you let hatred grow, it will eat away at your whole approach to life, and eventually make you a mean and spiteful person. In the end, you may find that it is your actions that need to be forgiven.

Christians usually don't adhere to the teachings of Jesus but search out teachings by those who came way after Jesus for just the right one to justify their acts. Catholics are probably best at following the Jesus teachings and have often risked their lives to do so in Latin America and around the world.

As far as being dangerous to love your enemies - think it over a little further. Why are people your enemies? We like to think it's because they're inherantly bad, espeically if their culture is different from ours. But if you look into it from their side, just to see, you will often see that they believe you are the bad guy. This where "compassion" comes in. Compassion being the ability to see another beyond the label, beyond titles, beyond "good" or "bad" but as a human or a sp[irit not unlike yourself at base. I have found that when i can find a way to relate to people like this, they usually are open and we learn about each other rather than fight each other. It is never dangerous to love your enemy though it might be to run out and embrace your enemy before you both have an understanding of each other. Also it takes trust and trust takes time and experience to build, especially if one or the other has been wronged.
But in any case, the only way we're going to survive as a species, is if we learn to use our brains and our hearts rather than our bombs and bullets.

No Christians do not have to forgive. There are no conditions on salvation. A Christian should want to forgive: "If any man be in Christ Jesus he is a new creation, old things are passed away behold all things are become new"

(new creation)Metamorphosis is the the Greek root word. We follow by freewill. The desire to be Christ like is born from within our hearts, not a list of rules

Shan, to answer you first - No. They don't always. Thats why there are many messages from christians leaders teaching christians how to forgive. It is not easy to forgive sometimes and it needs to be done because it holds us back from God. We only hurt ourselves by holding onto unforgiveness. Forgiving is not a condition because we are forgiven, it is an example to help people forgive because when you know what you have been forgiven it makes it easier to forgive others and to let go.

I think it can be dangerous not to forgive but mostly to yourself. I have forgiven some pretty bad stuff but likewise I hope I have been forgiven by others for the bad stuff I did to them. When I was Christian I forgave but sometimes with resentment. Now I forgive because I know we are all human and are able to be foolish as well as wise and hurtful as well as loving. Carrying resentment around just makes us sick. I don't need God to forgive me for being what He made me. Love needs no forgiveness.

“For if YOU forgive men their trespasses, YOUR heavenly Father will also forgive YOU; 15 whereas if YOU do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will YOUR Father forgive YOUR trespasses." -Matthew 6:14-15

What is dangerous about that?

(Ephesians 4:32) But become kind to one another, tenderly compassionate, freely forgiving one another just as God also by Christ freely forgave YOU.

(Colossians 3:13) Continue putting up with one another and forgiving one another freely if anyone has a cause for complaint against another. Even as Jehovah freely forgave YOU, so do YOU also.

We are imperfect and thus make mistakes and do upset one another, however, if these are followed then we will be happier and healthier and thus and a huge bonus have the favor of our Father in the Heavens.

If all Christians follow the religion and its tenements then how Hitler invaded all European countries, why Christians in Ireland fought with each other.

Hindus were very peace loving people so everybody in the world came with very small armies and conquered and plundered them.

Forgiving is also taken as a weakness and will be taken advantage of.

All religions teach good things, but man being man has his own design. He is the only animal which kills for money, lust and ego.

I think so. I am not the best Christian to ask. I come and go on what it takes in order to qualify as a Christian. It depends on my mood.

I, personally find it difficult to forgive people and I think other people should do the same.

Jesus motto's were "Turn the other cheek" and "Forgive your brother 77 times". My mottos are, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me." and "If someone hurts you, they'll have to answer to God, not you." So, basically, don't trust someone who has hurt you before to not do the same thing again but let them answer to God and don't try to get even yourself.

Love conquers all. Forgiveness frees us of any strongholds that the enemy (satan) tries to hold us back with. No danger when you live in the security of God's everloving arms. Jesus promised His own that nothing can happen to them that hasn't gone thru His hands first. Jesus is always with us. He is our refuge and our strength. He has not given us a spirit of fear. God bless
