What is the easiest way to commute from the Upper West Side to Lower Manhattan (wall st.)?

What options are there other than the subway? Are there shared vans or shared taxis? If so where/when can I pick them up in the morning?

John, considering the traffic in midtown why would you want to take street based transportation. It would take you twice as long as it would if you took the subway.

As far as shared vans (not carpools) or taxis - as a rule those are not allowed in NYC (doesn't mean they don't exist). Ask your neighbors.

In the meantime - make good use of that MetroCard.
