Cancer of the what? There are sooooo many kinds, unfortunately. If you have ANY medical qualms, check them out with a health professional. Cancer cannot be diagnosed over the internet.
My breast cancer was detected by mammogram and biopsy, my brain cancer, by lumbar puncture. Both were treated and are in remission so I am effectively 'cured'. As they say in the TV commercials, cancer is a word, not a sentence.
It's better to know and have it treated, than not know what is happening to your body. Strip, search and save.
Check out this great website. Good luck.

Symptoms of cancer, if any depend on what type or part of the body you're concerned about. Today the majority of cancers are curable when diagnosed early. For general prevention, there are things that you should avoid or have in moderation. COLD CUTS---Sodium Nitrite in Cold Cuts is a preservative that prevents botulism but your digestive system converts it into a carcinogen. This conversion is blocked if you consume some type of Vitamin C with that food. COOKING OIL-- Every time that a cooking oil is heated it breaks down releasing carcinogens (known as peroxides) into the oil. Every time that oil is heated it breaks down further. Fast food and other restaurants change the deep frying oil about once a week. Doctors are saying that frequently eating food cooked on a Barbecue is cancer causing. So everything in moderation. Researchers have found that people with Cancer always have a deficiency in the mineral Selenium. They don't know if Cancer causes a Selenium deficiency or if a Selenium deficiency causes Cancer. So it's wise to take a Selenium supplement of 50 mcg daily. Keep in mind that Selenium in mega-doses is bad for anyone, so 50 mcg daily and you'll have no problem. Eat a diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables. They provide antioxidants that help get rid of any oxidants or carcinogens . Avoid excessive sun exposure or use a sunscreen. Of course, don't smoke. and go easy with X-rays. Be Well.

Given there are in excess of 150 cancers it is impossible to answer.
Most cancers are very curable. Today breast cancer is very curable. Others such as lung only have a 20% 1 year survival (only 20 in 100 people with lung cancer will be alive after 1 year).
Some cancers such as breast and ovarian can be prevented through prophylactic surgery. This is removing the breasts or the ovaries befroe any cancer can develop. However, this is only offered to very high risk patients.

It depends on what type of cancer the person has (like whether it is like cervical, lung, skin, etc)
Unfortunately, most types of cancer are assymptomatic, meaning they show no symptoms at all until it reaches STAGE 4.
Some cancers could be lessened and stop the growth of cancer cells through chemotherapy. Others like breast cancer, they would do mastectomy (or removal of the whole breast) just to stop the spread of cancer cells
You can prevent cancer through certain ways.
1. Stay away from the sun during mid-noon (10AM-3PM), THose times are where the ultraviolet rays are strong to attack the DNA on your skin. UV rays can cause T=T dimer which can result to skin cancer
2. Avoid carcinogenic foods such as hotdogs, bacons, processed red meat, etc. These contains nitrates that causes cancer in your digestive tract
3. Avoid certain harmful chemicals such as asbestos. Prolong exposure to this can cause lung cancer. Lung cancer can also be caused by smoking EVEN those second-hand smoking. This means that you are exposed to cigarette smoke even you are not smoking. Study shows that 2nd-hand smokers are more prone to have lung cancer.
4. Avoid too much radiation such as X-Rays
Cancer can also be genetically inherited. If your family has a history of cancer, then there is a high probability that you could also have it. It is much suggested to have regular consults with your doctor, especially an oncologist, once you knew this because cancer really kills.

I agree with all who have answered. As far as main symptoms you never know!
I have done a lot of research on the preventatives. And have gotten a lot of the same answers from many cancer treatment and cancer research centers.
#1. Scientists have proved that Cancer can NOT live in a perfect to low PH environment (an Alkaline environment). This meaning keeping your body's PH at 5.0 or as close as possible. Staying away from Acidic foods is the key. I have learned that Acidic foods was not as I thought. You would think that an orange or grape fruit would be considered Acidic for the body. But the wonder here is. When you eat the orange it is acidic how ever this citric acid breaks down to an ash that traps toxins thus lowering your PH. Asparagus is perfect for this and all who eat this in my opinion nasty food, Makes the urine smell HORRID! But it is the Ash that has pulled all of the toxins from your system through its journey.
there are charts that you can get on line that will give you a scale showing acidic foods down to Alkaline foods and in there food groups. It is easy to follow and put together a healthy meal plan that allows you to eat the same foods you always have. you just learn to eat less of certain ones.
#2. Buy a roll of PH tape to help you follow your PH level. you can treat this the same as someone with diabetes. My father has Diabetes and he and i both do out testing the same time every day. We are just testing for different things. He for his life. Me for a preventative!
#3. I have also read that Vitamin C in lack for better words KILLS cancer cells! And here is how.
When the Vitamin C enters the blood stream it looks very much like the blood cells that cancer attacks and needs to survive. When the cancer attaches to the Vitamin C it dies or (emplodes).
On a health note: I have learned lately that with the Bottled Water boom that has hit the nation. You have to be careful with bottled water as well.
there is distilled water, Reverse Osmosis water, DeOzoneated water(sp) I am not sure on the details for i am still researching the topic. How ever the harm in some of these bottled waters is that when they are being purified they are loosing all of there minerals and given a positive charge. And when this water is exposed to air it rapidly begins to pull harmful acids from the air.
And Acid is what we are all trying to stay away from.
there is endless info on all of these topics just type"PH of the human body" in you search bar and surf the sites.
you can even learn how carbonated drinks damage your skin and the ability to heal. its all in the free-radicals!
Hope i have been helpful!

That's the problem. Cancer has no symptoms until it's too late.
Prevention and early detection is the best treatment. Male or female, age, familiy history, all are important to determine if you are at risk. I definately suggest , talk to your doctor, express your concerns, and ask him to suggest a prevention program.
The problem, a lot of people don't have a program. they don't recognize symptoms ortsake them seriously. Then they have to have a chunk of their colon removed.
Call the local branch of the American cancer society for info. They'll be glad to help you.
And don't be shy. When the dr puts on a rubber glove and greases it up, it's to save your life. And if you smoke, QUIT!

There are lots of different types of cancer and they have different symptoms. Many of them are curable. Prevention is mostly a matter of eating a healthy diet, not smoking, and getting regular tests.
This is the best source of information I know of on the web:

There are multiple types of Cancer and each one has it's own type of symptoms. I am not sure it is totally preventable as it is still not known for sure if some people have predetermining factors. However, a good diet, regular exercise and antioxidants can assist in keeping you healthy=0)

Agree with wiz, it is the silent killer and it sadly got my mum in it's evil clutches, she died in January of this year of lung cancer.
Everybodys symptoms are different, you cant really point out certain symptoms as i,ve said each poor person suffering will have different symptoms at different stages.
Is it curable? yes and no, how to stop it b4 it happens?
Quit smoking?! cant really answer that one, my poor mum only found out she had cancer in November 06 and passed away in Jan 07, if you catch it in time there's hope, sadly for me and my family the Silent killer lived up to it's name and ripped the heart out of my family!

You're going to have to be more a bit more specific, I'm afraid - there are many types of cancer, and many different treatments - as for being curable.......maybe you should be consulting a qualified medical practitioner...
