"If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives." Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NIV
A rapist has to marry the girl he raped, that's pretty obvious. Throughout the whole Bible, the feelings of women have never really mattered, so this question is not about that.
But what if he's already married to another woman? How does that work? Does the father of the girl at least get his 50 shekels of silver?

Rapists are prosecuted if caught, irrespective of Jewish religious law.
I don't wish to be disrespectful, but is there something wrong with your perception of reality? Even in Israel, the above would have no affect on civil law. The question astounds me.

You are talking about a tribal desert people many years ago.
I agree that rape against a single child bearing age woman is extremely serious and should be seen as serious. But to say the man should be forced to marry her if she becomes pregnant doesn't address the issue. She is being forced to marry someone who is forced to marry her.
However, the purpose of a woman back in Old Testament time was to bear children. The reason for polygamy was to build up the tribe. Children were assets. A woman's choice in who she married was not a consideration.

What if the girl didn't want to be with someone who took her okay I understand your point but you miss the broader message that the book has to offer if we all only focused o the negative things about one another and constantly attacked them how much room would that give a person to learn and grow STOP this and these senseless attacks build who you are instead of attacking someone or something else you defeat the purpose of what you believe in when you take time away from the building and understanding of yourself and beliefs when you attack someone else or something
Work On:
Self Esteem
Religious or Beliefs Esteem

Oh give it up already. This question has been asked over and over here. Are you asking the Jews here? Because if you are asking the Christians, we follow the teachings of the NT. The OT is only there as historical documents to show us the prophecies that lead to Christ. They are a history of the Jewish people and have no bearing on modern day practice of Christianity. Or for that matter on modern day Judaism either.

Well, I'll tell you what- let's just assemble all the civilized nations of the world and just pound the hell out of Israel for these ancient, and cultural heresies.
Are there any other nations on earth besides the US and Israel that has, past or present, any practices you find objectionable?
Maybe Africa? Anything going on there catching your attention, eh?

That's why the ancient Israelites had polygamy...he'd just have more than one wife.
If memory serves one of the bible's heroes (Salomon) had over 700 wives. One has to wonder how much time he spent raping young virgins?

He just marries both of the womem...I agree...women had no rights in the Bible..especially the Old Testament. Heck they stoned you just for being raped. But, those kinds of passages are proof that it was written by man...no god would be so unjust to women.

There's nothing amusing about rape.
Only someone who has never been the victim of sexual assault or has not had to support a loved one who has been sexually assaulted could EVER make a light-hearted comment about rape.

LMAO. They never know how to field these questions.
They either respond "logically" - "Well multiple wives were fine then, so OBVIOUSLY god would approve of his marrying several of them. Sometimes they gathered quite a collection of wives, just by going on a raping spree. It's how it was done."
Or they respond "You've got to be kidding! How horrible."
*sigh* I'm getting depressed again!

When that was written it was ok for a man to have more then one wife. So if he raped her and had to marry her, him already being married would not be an issue.
