I'm about 30 lbs over my weight. I started doing cardio a few days ago. Someone told me that I shouldn't do sit-ups until I lost the weight, is this true? How about weight lifting?

doing situps will only make your belly look bigger since there is gona be more muscle underneath the layer of fat.
cardio is the only way to lose weight.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

For sure weight lifting, muscle burns more calories than fat so your body will develop a higher metabloism. For the situps I would try crunches, less strain on your back or get a ab machine i habe the torso track but there are several newer ones out there. A strong core is essential also a slender waist is highly sexy. I lost 30#'s 5 yrs ago and kept it off and eventually devloped a 6 pack. need to get it back after my pregnancy is over in a couple weeks shudder to think what my abs are going to look like. But here are tow other moves that are EXCELLENT
Lay on your back keep your legs out straight put your arms at your sides and lift your legs off teh floor , keeping your legs straight try to do 30 or up to close to 30 as you can repeat 3 times. Also I have tons of other ab workouts to work on obliques lower abs...etc too long to put here. If you get FITTV then check out Gilad Total body sculpt

Another great core exercise is to get down like a regulation pushup with your toes, not knees on the floor, lower your self to your elbows and stay there for as long as you can. Count teh seconds try to work up to 100 seconds. But at fist find out how long you can go, say 20 seconds, well tehen repeat until you can get up too 100, as many reps as it takes

Sit ups are okay! Not the greatest exercise especially if you want to lose weight. What are the biggest muscles in your body? your legs right! working your legs out will help boost your metabolism quicker than just going straight with sit-ups. Theirs a term that was used by Covert Bailey, author from the books "fit or fat", he called it spot reducing. Spot reducing is when you try to isolate a certain area of your body to lose body fat. Spot reducing does not work because your body loses body fat overall. If doing sit ups would give us smaller stomachs then chewing gum would give us skinny faces. So to end this quick, work out the legs, back and torso. Your arms will always work as secondary muscles, especially if you're doing lat pull down (biceps) or chest press (triceps). Just remember the most important part about losing weight is staying positive!

It is not true, you can do sit-ups right now. Weight lifting should be fine, just don't go straight for the very heavy weights just yet until you've accustomed to your current weight lifting.

yes you should do abdominal training use a variety of exercises to stimulate the midsection. for optimum fat loss both resistance training and cardio should be performed. the more healthy that your diet is the faster results will be seen. exercise only provides the stimulation to the muscles the diet ultimately determines the size of the body

well you can do situps but your abs wont show until you lose ur stomach fat. So you can either do them before u lose the weight or after, wouldnt make much difference.
